General Information:
Job title: Outpatient Coder
Schedule: Full-time, 80 hours per pay period; Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm
Weekend rotation: No Weekends
Holiday rotation: Paid Holidays
Position Summary:
The Outpatient Coder position codes Hospital and Clinic Accounts, making sure assigned codes are correct and sequenced appropriately as per government and insurance regulations.
Position Responsibilities:
- Transform diagnoses, procedures, medical services, and equipment into universal medical alphanumeric codes for reimbursement and collection of data, including physician notes and lab and radiologic results, ensuring codes are applied correctly involving abstracting information from documentation.
- Assign ICD diagnosis and CPT procedural codes to accounts based on orders and documentation.
- Review and correct denials and claim edits.
- Request information as needed from provider, staff, or supervisor.
- Research and stay educated on the latest guidelines and developments from outside sources such as AHIMA, CDC, Medicare, and nThrive.
- Organize education material and update for meetings and emails for fellow coders.
- Audit and educate providers and patient care staff on documentation needs.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Position Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical coding (RHIT, CCS, CCSP, CPC CCA)/billing certification preferred.
- 1+ years of related work experience preferred.
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required.
