Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Intervention Services Supervisor, the Outreach/Prevention Specialist will perform a variety of duties interacting with students, teachers, parents, inmates, and community agencies to prevent substance abuse, childhood adverse experiences, unplanned pregnancy, domestic violence, dropping out of school, and involvement with the criminal justice system, through education, outreach, and intervention services using evidence based practices and information dissemination. The Outreach/Prevention Specialist will foster relationships between community organizations, the County Department, and public agencies to provide opportunities for youth and adults in Shawano County to combat stigma on mental health and substance abuse issues. This position is also responsible for backup to the crisis team, which may include on-call crisis coverage and court services as it relates to chapters 51, 54 and 55.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

- Use needs assessment strategies to gather relevant data, identify gaps and prioritize needs, to evaluate the County’s current alcohol and drug related issues to annually development the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Prevention plan (ATOP).
- Select, develop, evaluate, and provide direct prevention education services, activities, groups, classes, or case management services based on high-risk target audiences (i.e., children 5–18-year-old), to raise awareness, increase community resources, and provide opportunities to build resiliency.
- Identify and build community ownership of the ATOP prevention programs by collaborating with key community leaders as the alcohol and drug prevention consultant for the Department, school districts, community groups, and public agencies.
- Develop, organize and maintain information and data for purposes of outreach, public relations, resources and brochures.
- Manage a caseload of clients regarding needs revolving around prevention practices, such as SBIRT.
- Examine the community’s public policies and norms to determine environmental change needs, make recommendations to policy makers/stakeholders that will positively influence the community’s public policies and culture.
- Maintain personal knowledge, skills and abilities related to current prevention theory and practice. Build necessary skills to effectively work within the cultural context of the community and target populations.
- Attend weekly crisis staffing and monthly AODA staffing, providing updates on the ATOD prevention plan and programming or events. Identify high risk individuals, families, and
professional or natural supports to engage in outreach efforts to reduce the risk of worsening crisis.
-Provides fill-in coverage for the Department’s crisis line, Intervention Services Supervisor with Chapter 51 commitments, Chapter 55 protective services and Chapter 54 guardianships.
-Performs liaison and public relation functions for the agency on issues related to outreach and prevention.
-Performs other related duties and participates in special projects.

Requirements:
-Bachelor's Degree in relevant area of education or human services.
-A minimum of one year of clinical experience working with persons with mental illness and substance use disorders. Required to receive 40 hours of crisis training within the first 3 months of employment and pursue the Prevention Specialist Certification through the Department of Safety and Professional Services.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.17 - $28.50 per hour
