UPMC Mercy is hiring full-time Painters to support the Maintenance and Facilities department! This role will work variable shifts, but primarily daylight with rotating weekends.

This position covers the entire existing UPMC Mercy campus including the brand new UPMC Mercy Pavilion, a state-of-the-art building designed for Rehabilitation and Vision Restoration & Research. The entire campus is served by a central plant, Clearway Energy LLC, providing steam, chilled water, and emergency power. The pavilion has integrated the latest building controls automation systems, energy-efficient heating/cooling systems, and brand new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Responsibilities:

• Apply coats of paint, varnish, stains, enamels, lacquer or vinyl wall covering to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures of the hospital.

• Paint, clean or replace all forms of ceiling tile and vinyl baseboard.

• Smooth surfaces using sandpaper, wire brushes, or steel wool and remove old paint from surfaces, using paint remover scrapers, wire brushes, or blow torches to prepare surfaces for painting.

• Fill nail holes, cracks and joints with putty, plaster or other filler.

• Select pre-mixed paints or prepares paint to match specified colors by blending and mixing required proportions of pigment oil and thinning and drying substances.

• Paint surfaces using brushes, spray gun, electrostatic spray equipment, or paint roller. Remove existing wall covering and prepare walls to accept new wall covering.

• Rig stage or erects scaffolding.

• Spread cloth or canvas over floors and furniture to protect them from spattered paint.

• Responsible for cleaning and removing all supplies, equipment and office furniture.

• Remove all bulletin boards, electrical covers, shelves, handrails, protective coverings and signage from work area for painting.

• All work is to be done being conscious of safety hazards and cost containment efforts.

• Layout, fabricate and design all different forms of signage throughout the hospital complex.

• Work with outside sign contractors in the layouts, repairs and installation of hospital signs.

• Prepare daily time sheets.

• Estimate quantities of material and equipment needed and prepares requisitions.

• Must carry a provided work phone while on site.

• Must possess the ability to rotate all shifts, weekends and holiday work schedules.

• Must be able to move 50lbs.

• Must possess the ability to move throughout the facilities various buildings, roofs, tunnels, and confined spaces.

• Must be able to perform all forms of appropriate maintenance work or repairs on various forms of ladders, scaffolds, man lifts and safety equipment in order to complete work assignments at extreme heights.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.

• Trade school or vocational school graduate preferred.

• At least three years experience required in the painting and vinyl wall covering field.

• Must possess the ability and knowledge to operate and maintain power equipment/tools, both stationary and portable, pertaining to the maintenance field.

• Must be self-motivated, good decision maker and able to deal with multiple priorities in emergency conditions.

• May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.
