Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:

The EMT-PARAMEDIC is to provide patient care in accordance with established policies and procedures of Las Palmas Medical Center. In collaboration with the patient, the patient’s family and other members of the health care team. The EMT-PARAMEDIC works under the direction of the ER Director and reports to the charge nurse for shift assignments and direction of shift duties assigned. The paramedic works under the RN with delegation to unlicensed personnel in

Accordance with Rule 224 of the Texas BON (relating to RN delegation in acute care setting or for patients with acute conditions)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of patient care, to include vital signs, venipuncture, urinary catherization, cardiac monitoring, and 12 lead EKG.
  • Blood glucose monitoring, patient transfers – lifts, immobilization techniques, basic wound care and dressing changes, assist with emergency procedures and equipment/supplies, pulse oximetry monitoring and oxygen delivery device application.
  • Monitors and recognizes changes in the patient’s behavioral and physiological status and takes appropriate action based on assessment.
  • Participates in the unit based Quality Improvement Process
  • Monitors and documents information regarding patient activities, as directed by the RN.
  • Monitoring of supply need in the ED, with replacing and restocking as needed.
  • Complies with National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Provides excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge with 100% compliance of Core Measures in the Emergency Department
  • Other duties as assigned.

What qualifications you will need:
  • High School Graduate / GED

REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • BCLS certification
  • ACLS
  • PALS
  • EMT-PARAMEDIC CERTIFICATION
  • PHTLS preferred not required
  • All certifications/licensures must be renewed before expiration date.
