In our supportive environment, our Pathology Assistants are always learning and training in different sections of pathology, while maintaining accuracy with high volume of processing.
The Surgical Pathology Assistant is responsible for the following:
- Handling and accessioning of surgical and outpatient tissues within the laboratory computer systems
- Tracking and receipt of anatomic pathology specimens across the Scripps Health System
- Performing specimen pickup runs across a home campus
- Assigning cases to pathologists while also assisting Pathologists, PAs and Grossing Assistance with the preparation/evaluation of case material
- Knowledge of protocols for special handling of surgical specimens for both internal and send out diagnostic workups
- Maintaining archives of specimens/records
- Monitoring/ordering of supplies and maintaining work areas in a clean and orderly fashion
- Instrument maintenance, preparation of stain reagents and communication with laboratory customers
- Other duties as needed
Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Detail oriented.
- Legible penmanship.
- Basic computer skills, especially data.
- Excellent customer service skills.
Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:
- Pathology background.
- Clinical lab experience.
