JOB SUMMARY:

The Patient Access Representative – Registration performs ambulatory, outpatient, and inpatient registration, payer eligibility, and financial screening functions. Guides hospital users, patients, and families through the registration process. Works to assist patients and families with meeting financial requirements. Estimates and collects point of service payments from patients. Provides exceptional patient focused customer service. Communicates effectively to service area(s) to maximize patient flow and customer service.

PREREQUISITES

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree preferred.

Experience: Three years experience in a medical office/hospital setting preferred. At least 1 year of experience as a Patient Access Representative – Registration preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology, typing skills required. Must be detail oriented and able to handle multiple tasks.

Other: Must be able to understand written and oral instructions pertaining to a variety of requests and demonstrate critical decision-making to manage these requests. Must have adequate math skills to collect money, make change, and compile simple or complex financial estimations. Ability to work in fast-paced environment and communicate with people at all times in a professional and tactful manner. Must be competent with general computer skills. Must be detail oriented and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and prioritize appropriately. Must have excellent customer service skills.
