The Patient Care Technician assists in the delivery of patient care and services to defined patient groups and their families under direction of the RN.
- Provides care to patients assigned within unit specific defined limits. Performs treatment and procedures in accordance with established policies and procedures. Reports observations, conditions and problems of patients to the registered nurse.
- Accurately identifies the patients using standardized patient identification protocols and resolves any discrepancies prior to caring for patient.
- Demonstrates competency in performing routine procedures as established by department (unit specific).
- Demonstrates knowledge and appropriate use of the hospital systems to include clinical equipment and serves as a resource to physicians, patients, visitors, and staff.
- Organizes the workflow, solves problems, and manages several ongoing priorities with minimal supervision and follows channels of communication as appropriate. Maintains an orderly environment that facilitates access to supplies, manuals, and other resource information through monitoring inventories and ordering supplies to maintain par levels.
- Participates as a team player by actively making recommendations for improving working relationships within the department/unit. Demonstrates an understanding and commitment to maintaining an environment that assures all customers and individuals are treated with dignity and respect.
- Demonstrates the spirit of the philosophy, mission, and values of the hospital through words and actions and implements them into departmental processes, programs, and the working environment.
- Applies the principles and values of customer service and continuous quality improvement while performing day to day activities of the position.Maintains and protects confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care, personnel and strategic issues. Adheres to Confidentiality Policy.
Maintains positive working relationships and fosters cooperative work environment. Adheres to the hospital’s compliance program_.Displays honesty and mutual respect when communicating with peers and other departments.Follows through on problems that may compromise effective job performance by using appropriate chain of command.Adheres to safety practices and meets requirements of National Patient Safety Goals.

Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certification, License: Current certification as a Certified Nurse Assistant in the State of Texas is perferred, but not required.
Education, Knowledge and Training: One (1) year related experience and/or training, preferably in a hospital setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Current BLS certification
- Must pass all competencies and skills testing provided upon hire.
- Basic computer knowledge with ability to use Hospital Information Systems and Microsoft Office/basic computer applications.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced environment is required.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and speaking English, as well as demonstrate interpersonal skills with all levels of the healthcare team, patient families, and guests.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Must have familiarity with patient monitors and alarms.
