STATUS: Full Time

Position Summary:

An Accounting Office position that performs accounting and payroll duties involved in the preparation and processing of all university payrolls.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process, biweekly, institutional student and federal work study student payrolls, and any miscellaneous payrolls as needed.
  • Maintain cross-training to run monthly staff, monthly faculty and adjunct payrolls.
  • Responsible for transition of monthly non-exempt employees to the biweekly payroll related to position management project
  • Electronically submit payroll to bank for direct deposit.
  • Assign tax status and enter direct deposit information in Colleague payroll system and assign Kronos timekeeping license (if applicable) for new employees
  • Responsible for maintaining and reviewing all information provided to and by ADP Tax Services related to payroll
  • Record employees’ sick/vacation leave taken and accrue earned sick/vacation leave in Colleague, reconcile and update Kronos monthly with leave balances.
  • Responsible for all payroll requests for change (taxes, direct deposits, etc.)
  • Responsible for accurate transmission of payroll information to TIAA for timely retirement contributions (University and employee portions)
  • Maintain up to date paper filing system for employee data for biweekly, institutional student and federal work study students.
  • Responsible for electronically reporting all payroll-related reports to the IRS, NC Dept of Revenue (and other states), NC Division of Unemployment, and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
  • Complete verification of employment forms for various agencies, such as: child support, food stamp, banks, loan processors and tax offices.
  • Consult with IT to create Informer reports to pull needed payroll information for reports/administration.
  • Responsible for all W-2 processing and reporting.
  • Responsible for keeping Colleague updated with current tax tables and rates.
  • Responsible for submitting payroll information when requested by auditors for annual payroll, NCAA, retirement and workman’s compensation audits.
  • Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of payroll regulations with federal and state taxing authorities.
  • Consults with employees concerning payroll inquiries.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including but not limited to Title IX, and Information Security, including but not limited to; HIPAA, FERPA and other state and federal mandates
  • Other job-related duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice

Education/Experience:

  • Required: High School Diploma and at least three years of payroll accounting experience with a company with at least 500 employees.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Accounting with at least two years payroll accounting experience with a company with at least 500 employees.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
  • Comprehensive computer skills, with the ability to learn and utilize new and emerging technology
  • Proficiency with Colleague or comparable ERP and Kronos (or comparable) timekeeping software systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and common methods of digital communication such as web conferencing, web/text chat
  • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy, and complete confidentiality in dealing with faculty, staff, students and university officials
  • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Exercise good judgment in complex, new, and/or stressful situations.
  • Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet set deadlines – particularly related to any changes in ERP, payroll, timekeeping systems.
  • Adaptability, flexibility and a willingness to work in a changing environment
  • Ability to work occasional evening or weekend hours and/or occasional travel
