Payroll Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team. This position will be part-time, approximately 20 hours/week, and ideally hybrid (a few days onsite in Walnut Creek office) but open to remote.

The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate processing of employee payroll, as well as managing all aspects of HRIS-related tasks including benefits and deductions, and employee data integrity. The successful candidate will have a strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a solid understanding of CA payroll regulations and best practices.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and process employee payroll in a timely and accurate manner (current systems are Viventium for HR and Quickbooks Online for Accounting)
• Maintain accurate payroll records, including employee deductions, tax withholding, and other relevant information
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll regulations
• Process employee benefits, including 401(k), health insurance, and other related programs
• Ensure employee data and status changes are updated and accurate
• Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll and benefits
• Stay current on changes in payroll regulations and industry best practices
• Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll

Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience in payroll processing and administration
• Experience processing payroll for large populations of hourly employees with variable shifts and pay rates
• Associate’s degree in general business courses or related college coursework preferred
• Experience with Viventium payroll system a plus (but not required)
• Experience working with Quickbooks Online (QBO) a plus
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Proficient in Google Docs (Docs, Sheets) and Excel
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
