The role of a Respite Nurse is to offer one-on-one time between a child and licensed nurse within the family’s home or community, or to provide nursing support and oversight to 10-12 children in a team environment. Respite care is designed to give families a break from the day-to-day care involved in raising a child with special healthcare needs. ChildServe’s respite service allows parents to attend events for their other children, schedule appointments for themselves, or simply take time to recharge.

When You’ll Work

• In home, 1:1 services are primarily afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Can be regularly scheduled or as needed.
• Group services start Friday 6pm through Sunday 6pm. Shifts are typically 8-12 hours.

What You’ll Do

• Proved one-on-one nursing support in the home or community/Provide nursing support, rehabilitative needs, and preventative care in a ratio of 1:3 at the ChildServe Center
• Interact with the child and participate in fun activities
• Complete electronic documentation and paper MARS
• Possible skills used: medication administration, g-tube nutrition, seizure management, trach cares, etc.

What You’ll Need

• Current valid RN/LPN license in Iowa
• Valid driver’s license with two or fewer violations in the past three years
• Active BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Experience working with children with special health care needs preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively in reading, writing and speaking the English language
• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs, be mobile within the assigned work area, and frequently bend, lift, reach, and stand.
