The Pharmacy Technician 3 Certified, under a pharmacist¡¦s supervision, performs technical and clerical tasks associated with the preparation, labeling and dispensing of medications including sterile IV and chemotherapy admixtures. In addition, performs tasks pertaining to pharmacy quality control, management of pharmacy records, inventory control and preparation of orders for drugs for patients of Home Infusion Solutions. Such medication orders are prepared up to the point of final checking and dispensing by registered pharmacists. Provides training for technicians. Exemplifies the HIS mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with HIS/Rush policies and procedures.

Position Responsibilities:

Assists pharmacists in coordinating and scheduling preparation of sterile admixtures.
Recognizes, distinguishes and applies proper billing plan codes.
Assists pharmacists in computer order entry, resulting in label and billing generation.
Processes IDPA and Medicare Part D billing and communicates effectively with reimbursement department.
Organizes assigned workload to facilitate its accomplishment.
Prepares and compounds sterile admixtures, including but not limited to antibiotics, chemotherapy, hydration, narcotic analgesics, and eye drops using aseptic techniques and under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
Ensures the I.V. preparation room and related equipment are cleaned, calibrated and maintained per organizational policy and procedure.
Participates and maintains media fill testing schedules and logs.
Aides in the preparation of patients charts, enters medication profiles in SCS and maintains on an ongoing basis.
Prepares patient Start of Care Checklist with inter-disciplinary coordination.
Evaluates product usage and updates/revises patient inventory usage numbers in the computer based on actual usage, change in orders, and communication with nursing. Documents intervention with patients via Progress Notes.
Processes supply inventory to ensure computer entry and packing slip generation.
Coordinates/schedules deliveries of all patient orders with Operations Manager and Pharmacist as appropriate.
Assists patients with supply requests and delivery issues.
Updates/revises patient inventory usage numbers in the computer based on actual usage, change in orders, and communication with other team members.
Reviews pharmacist orders for changes that might affect current supplies being sent.
Coordinates/schedules pick-up of supplies and equipment at the completion of patient therapy in a timely manner and performs follow-up with Operations Manager.

Participates with the pharmacist and Operations Manager in monitoring and maintaining drug inventories and preparing orders for drugs and related supplies.
Places orders with wholesalers and direct accounts.
Assists Operations Supervisor in supply preparations for deliveries.
Participates in departmental QA activities as requested.
Completes aseptic technique testing quarterly.
Completes batch and compounding records and other Pharmacy records as indicated.
Assists in monthly pharmacy floor stock inspection of designated clinics, if applicable.
Trains other technicians in all areas, including aseptic technique, I.V. admixture, computer order entry, checking medication expirations and inventory management.
Participates in on call rotation when needed.
Able to present material to fellow staff in a non-confrontational manner.
Maintains a courteous manner at all times. Remains calm during periods of emergency and stress.
Takes initiative to present ideas and suggestions to management.
Arrives at workstation and begins work in a timely fashion.
Attends designated department meetings as scheduled.
Performs within the framework of RUMC/HIS/HDM, L.L.C. policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications Include:

High School Diploma or GED required.
Valid State of Illinois Pharmacy Technician license required.
Valid PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) preferred.
Successful completion of an approved/accredited Pharmacy technician training program desirable.
Experience in the aseptic preparation of large and small volume parenterals, parenteral nutrition, antibiotics and chemotherapy desirable.
Able to perform didactic review and pass written and media fill validation.
Knowledge of basic drug terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, drug use, aseptic technique and testing of aseptic manipulative skills initially and at least annually thereafter for low and medium risk preparations and semi-annually thereafter for high risk level preparations.
Record keeping requirements as per state regulation.
