Job Summary

Under limited supervision, responsibilities for assisting with facilities and laboratory operations, customer service delivery and environmental health/safety. Serve as a relationship leader to the customer as well as licensees. Communicate safety initiatives and other customer information for compliance with site SOPs.

MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance)
Facilities and Laboratory Operations

  • Equipment Upkeep - Arrange lab equipment preventative maintenance (PM) maintain PM tracking software. Perform routine maintenance on refrigeration.
  • Common Equipment Training - Provide basic operating training on common laboratory equipment. Assist with equipment troubleshooting, and supplemental resources. Assist in writing Work Instructions for equipment based on manuals/documentation provided by the manufacturer.
  • Help Desk Management - Oversee Help Desk Management Program. Triage/escalate Business Operations related tickets.
  • Procurement Management. Assist in obtaining quotes, preparing purchase orders, following up with vendors for laboratory, office and facilities equipment, goods and consumables.
  • Chemical and Biological Storage - Ensure hazardous and biohazardous materials are correctly handled and stored.
  • Cold Storage - Maintain and monitor cryogenic gas and dry ice usage. Support monitoring of cold storage through software systems.
  • Lab Upkeep - Support upkeep of common lab areas.
  • Shipping and Receiving - Provide back-up support to ensure shipments are received, processed, and recipients notified utilizing package tracking software. Ensure unclaimed packages are properly stored.
  • Customer Service
  • Licensee Onboarding and Offboarding - Support licensee onboarding and off boarding by assisting with laboratory/office preparation and communication with licensees.
  • Specialty Capital Equipment Training - Notify Operations Manager of licensee requests for specialty equipment training. Coordinate training.
  • Facility Modification - Communicate to Operations Manager requests for modifications from licensees. Coordinate changes with contractors. Assist with escorting contractors.


Environmental Health and Safety (EHS)

  • EHS Policy Compliance - Provide support to staff, licensees, vendors and visitors with respect to customer EHS standards adherence.
  • Safety Committee Meetings. Assist with the organization and preparation of Safety Committee meetings materials. Support execution of action items.
  • On Site ERT - Provide assistance to direct and account for persons during evacuations. Assist Operations Manager in completing incident reports.
  • Training and Policies - Support SOP creation and validation.
  • Site Audit Support - Coordinate with Operations team to prepare site for inspections within laboratories and facilities, EHS and security. Monitor completion of corrective actions.


QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)

  • BS Degree in Science preferred or BA
  • 1-year experience working within a laboratory setting
  • Strong process optimization skills and scientific trouble shooting skills
  • Fully computer literate and competent with all office applications
  • Strong verbal and written skills
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic, hands on, organized with strong ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently)

  • Conform to all customer requirements for background checks, health and safety issues, security clearances and medical checkups
  • Requires knowledge in using various instruments to prepare for and perform tests
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent Customer Service Skills; display a professional can-do attitude
  • Perform duties with the highest regard for safety and quality
  • Ability to understand and follow site protocols, policies and procedures
  • Must be flexible, forward- thinking, motivated, and have the ability to act independently
  • Must be able to lift up to 25lbs minimum
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office with proficiency in Word and Excel
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of Avantor's products and services
  • Problem-solving skills

Typically works in a laboratory or production environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level.
The associate is required to stand and walk for the majority of the working day. The physical requirements of the job are for associates to talk, hear, bend/stoop, squat, crawl, climb height, reach above shoulder height, crouch, kneel, balance, and push/pull. Furthermore, the job requires associates to lift/carry/push or pull up to 25 pounds with or without assistance.
Associates use both hands for repetitive actions such as grasping and manipulating as well as both feet for repetitive movement operating foots controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
