Position Summary

The Mechanic provides routine and emergency multi-craft maintenance, primarily plumbing. This position is a member of the collective bargaining unit, Local #148 International Union of Operating Engineers, AFL-CIO.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and repairing a variety of plumbing systems building infrastructure systems such as hot/chilled water systems, sewage lift stations, grease/chemical traps, fire pumps, loop systems, softeners, water heaters, and drainage systems, etc.
  • Pro-actively identifying, communicating and addressing needs without direction when appropriate.
  • Responding to work orders in and other requests in a timely, efficient, competent, knowledgeable and friendly manner.
  • Maintain data per departmental policy.
  • Utilizing materials, supplies, tools and other University property in a safe, productive manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

  • Position hours are Monday-Friday, 7:45 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.
  • This position requires physical work including bending, sitting and standing for long periods of time, lifting up to 50 pounds, using heavy equipment and traveling to on- and off-campus locations.
  • This position may be exposed to loud noises and chemicals.

***Benefits for this position are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement with IUOE Local 148. Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical school training in maintenance related courses strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with hydro therapy machines is a plus.
  • Proficient at maintaining and repairing a variety of plumbing systems. This includes, but not limited to, fixtures such as toilets, faucets, showers, as well as building infrastructure systems such hot/chilled water systems, sewage lift stations, grease/chemical traps, fire pumps, loop systems, softeners, water heaters, and drainage systems, etc.
  • Skilled in working with a variety of pipe types including copper, iron, PVC, etc.
  • Capability to clear a range of stoppages from sink traps and toilets to cabling out main drains.
  • Effective while working alone and within a team environment.
  • Meet or exceed attendance expectations on their last performance review and have a history of exceptional customer service and a desire to exceed customer expectations.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification, technical school training in maintenance related courses strongly preferred; 24 hour availability for emergencies and willingness to work overtime.
  • Must obtain a State of Missouri Class E or above driver’s license or the equivalent from another state prior to employment.
  • Candidate must have completed a recognized craft apprenticeship program, a technical school training program (i.e. Ranken Technical College) or equivalent training program.
  • Minimum of five years' professional experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $34.25 per hour
