Job Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Post-Doctoral Teaching and Learning Fellowship (PDTLF) is a new and innovative program at Montclair focused on interdisciplinary teaching and development for those people interested in teaching and supporting student success in a majority-minority, HSI, R2, comprehensive institution. This specific position will be housed in the Department of Education Leadership (EDLR) and also have opportunities to teach in the humanities. The PDTLF program is an incredible opportunity to bridge educational leadership and the humanities to inform the development of equitable education leaders. We are looking for a fellow who is passionate about impactful and translational pedagogy grounded in equity lenses. The PDTL Fellow will teach courses in both the Department of Educational Leadership and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, making this the perfect opportunity for a post-doc who seeks to deepen their pedagogical knowledge and instructional delivery.
The fellow has an amazing opportunity to engage in work that will directly impact students in the tradition of Montclair’s notable commitment to be a leader in pedagogical innovation while expanding their skill set within instructional delivery. The fellow will teach 4 classes in each of fall and spring semesters and 2 additional courses (minimum total 6 credits) in summer and/or winter session. The total teaching load will be a maximum of 30 credits over a calendar year. The fellowship will last one year (12 months), with review for renewal into a second year, and is targeted to support people who can benefit in a focused way from a university teaching experience. We encourage candidates in the discipline of Educational Leadership who are also persons of color and are familiar with leading K-12 schools in the urban setting to apply.
The candidate will also have the opportunity to engage and partner with the Male Enrollment and Graduation Alliance (MEGA), a national initiative to improve the college attendance and completion of Black and Hispanic males. MEGA is in the nascent stages at the University so the fellow has a unique opportunity to be a part of this groundbreaking, cross college, cross university, interdisciplinary initiative. MEGA will draw on data sources to explore the success of Black and Latino male scholars at the University and provide recommendations. In forthcoming phases, we anticipate the work addressing and recommending practices, policies, programs, curricular and co-curricular offerings, training and development of staff and faculty that promote the success of Black and Latino male scholars at the university. We also hope to develop new and deepened partnerships that help facilitate the pathways and career/graduate school readiness of our students. The fellow will be someone who may be essential in providing their expertise in any of these areas, especially informing recommendations and partnerships and informing the key components essential to supporting leaders of color.

The position is a full-time, 12-month post-doctoral teaching and learning fellowship starting July 1, 2023. Our department and college share a vision and commitment to developing equity-oriented leaders who can lead effectively in urban districts. Appointment includes collaborative curriculum development and teaching in a variety of modalities, as well as the expectation of participating in department, college, and university committees and activities.
