Through Columbia University's Pre-College Programs, high schoolers from around the globe prepare for the college experience through exploratory coursework and community activities over seven weeks in the summer. This highly selective program is open to academically exceptional high school students, entering grades 9–12 and freshman year of college.
Columbia University’s Pre-College Programs for High School Students is seeking qualified candidates to serve on the TIPS Team (Team for Instructional and Pedagogical Support) for Summer ‘23. TIPS instructors will act as substitute instructors in the event of last minute cancellations. They will also provide support to other instructors. Candidates must be able to adjust to urgent requests and the changing needs of the program.
On Campus Dates: All classes meet during the day Monday-Friday. Courses run roughly from 9am-5pm.
- Session 1: June 26th - July 14th
- Session 2: July 18th - August 4th
- Session 3: August 7th - August 11th
Responsibilities:
- Develop three lessons that can be delivered to any high school audience
- Develop resources for a shared Google Drive at the direction of the Director of Faculty and Instruction
- In collaboration with the Director of Faculty and Instruction, facilitate “Lunch ‘n’ Learns” for instructors on a variety of topics
- Provide 1:1 assistance for instructors on topics ranging from syllabus feedback to engaging students in the classroom
- Serve as a substitute instructor for last minute cancellations
- Be present on campus during on campus courses
- Establish and maintain a dynamic in-class environment for our high school population
- Offer feedback to students and record feedback for course instructor
- Monitor and address student concerns and inquiries
- Attend and complete all required online trainings
- Graduate degree or equivalent professional or academic background
- Master’s degree in Education or degree equivalent preferred
- 5+ years of experience teaching middle or high school
- Leadership or coaching experience working with other teachers
Additional Information
Hiring Salary Ranges:
Sessions 1 & 2 On-campus: $6,150-$7,850
Session 3 On-campus: $2,200-$2,800

- Applicants must have U.S. work authorization and will need to be in the U.S. while teaching
- Applicants may not hold a concurrent appointment with Columbia for the duration of their appointment
