Summary:

As the Procurement Manager for Capital Projects, this position is responsible for the safe and effective daily management of the Compass Minerals Capital Projects with immediate focus as an embedded member of the Lithium Project near the existing Ogden, UT facility, providing assistance to the broader enterprise as resources permit. This position will work closely with engineering and other capital projects team members to help prepare and distribute RFP/RFQ documents, evaluate supplier proposals, negotiate prices, commercial terms and select targeted suppliers and the generation of project agreements with the assistance of the Compass Minerals Legal team.

  • Promotes and monitors a culture conducive to generating ongoing improvements in Safety, Quality, Costs, Efficiency, Capital Spending, Employee Engagement and Continuous Improvement Process.
  • Effective procurement of capital and project work ensuring appropriate sourcing, negotiations and contract development, and all related documentation.
  • Research, identify and engage with suppliers in large projects focusing on equipment, MRO, service, and maintenance to meet the requirements of the organization.
  • Understand value drivers and negotiate contract, prices and business terms with suppliers.
  • Perform sourcing and RFX exercises to obtain the lowest total cost of ownership while minimizing any Supply Chain risks
  • Develop, manage and maintain cohesive site procurement methods, techniques and communications with internal and external stakeholders, suppliers and contractors.
  • Self-starter who can build sourcing/procurement credibility within groups not accustomed to working with procurement.
  • Leverage strong influencing skills to communicate on procurement value and align objectives and targets with stakeholders, including senior leaders.
  • Ability to successfully manage concurrent projects and meet deadlines in an ambiguous environment.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with all levels of internal staff and vendors.
  • Manage and expedite (as required) open purchase orders to ensure the timely delivery of quality goods and services.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate supply contracts on MRO purchasing, including loading of contract pricing into the system, to permit automated/simple release of contracted inventory items.
  • Effectively manage assigned areas of responsibility, remaining well informed on all Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
  • Conduct cost modeling i.e., TCO and ROI to build a business case with recommendations highlighting the best value for the organization.
  • Will be required to participate in career enhancement programs to attain/maintain professional level buying skills.
Qualifications


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Business preferred, or equivalent education and/or work experience.
  • Certifications: CPM preferred
  • Seven (7) or more years experience with capital projects experience in contracting and negotiating.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a fast-paced, time-sensitive, large-scale project
  • Experience working with OEM’s and MRO suppliers.
  • This position also requires a sound understanding of continuous improvement methods such as lean and Six Sigma.
  • Strong negotiation and presentation skills.
  • High level of adaptability to manage the changing needs of the business as they arise.
  • Proficiency with tools/systems to analyze data including Microsoft Office package.
