Position Summary:
At SanMar, this team member has a passion for product and finds satisfaction in being a part of the product creation process. This person will be responsible for assisting the Product Development Manager with a wide range of product categories and tasks. The ideal candidate demonstrates leadership skills, is a problem solver, has a positive attitude and willingness to adapt and grow.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Product Development
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead the product creation process through a complete cycle.
  • Effective independent communication with Suppliers and Cross Functional Team (CFT) partners.
  • Collaborate with CFT on design and engineering of seasonal development.
  • Participate in weekly CFT meetings and fit sessions.
  • Lead product development process improvement on continuous basis with CFT.
  • Develop Fabric, Trims and Styles with multiple sources and facilitate approval during product development stage.
  • Lead and monitor the review of Product Creation Calendar deliverables across CFT.
  • Manage prototypes, photo shoot and sales sample reviews with CFT.
  • Review and comment on Pre-Production/Top of Production samples with Tech Design partners.
  • Responsible for all Trim Approvals.
  • Responsible for preparing and sending lab-dip requests with vendors.
  • Review and approve Lab Dips and 1st bulk with color team, involving merchandising team and manager when needed.
  • Collaborate with color team on reviews of Bulk color submits, providing business demand and inventory status into decision making.
  • Initiate testing with quality team during development and beginning production stages.
  • Understand ITS test reports at the development and production stages. Communicate with Suppliers, Quality Assurance and Merchandisers on testing results and approvals.
  • Maintain all tested materials and samples and review results or issues with Manager and CFT team.
  • Execute embellishment testing with Decorator Relations team on new development styles.
  • Manage style file creation process for current production styles.
  • Collaborate with Merchandising to maintain and update ETA list.
  • Manage ELC chart and maintain seasonal costing quotes with managers’ guidance.
  • Identify and resolve any issues that arise during production.
  • Monitor accuracy of style set up in D365 for PO placement.
  • Proofread marketing materials for accuracy of all content.
  • Support Assistant on various production duties when needed.
  • Lead the resourcing process of current products and programs as required.
  • Complete compliance worksheets on seasonal basis to ensure correct classification of product with compliance team.
  • Manage organizing, leading, and follow up of Compliance/Classification/Safety meetings.

Production
  • Assist in writing Purchase Orders when needed.

General
  • Special projects as needed or assigned to.
  • Travel as needed to Factories and Mills for development of new products, conduct Pre-Production meetings and to resolve production issues.
  • Key Partnerships: Suppliers, Sourcing, Technical Design, Merchandising, Quality Assurance, Color, Compliance/Legal, Planning, Logistics, Supply Chain, Accounting and Decorator Relations.

Requirements for Position:
  • Bachelor's degree in Apparel/Textile design, merchandising, or a related field preferred.
  • 5 years apparel or industry experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel internationally as needed.
  • Knowledge of garment construction and raw materials.
  • High level ability to organize, communicate effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate goals and objectives.
  • Strong information seeking and problem-solving skills, with a drive to make things happen.
  • Comprehension, and ability to lead understanding of the design and development process from inception through final adoption and production delivery with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Excel, other Microsoft office applications and general data base software.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
