Programming and Circulation Assistant

Summary of responsibilities:
Circulation & Patron Services: Performs all circulation and reference duties including operating circulation software, checking materials in and out, setting up patron accounts, making copies, sending faxes, scanning, and assisting patrons with computer help up to and including setting up email accounts, resume’ creation, attaching files, sending emails and more. Assisting patrons establish and navigate Over Drive eBook account. Providing guidance in the library’s history and genealogy files and resources. Understanding of library paid database service, Texshare, and connecting patrons to appropriate online resources. Creating interlibrary loan requests for any resource or material not found in our collection. Shall handle
Interlibrary Loan materials. Check new library records for accuracy and prepare new cards for lamination and distribution to patrons. Maintain needed levels of front desk paperwork and supplies such as patron brochures, applications, temporary cards, laminate pouches, office supplies, internet agreement forms, etc.
Finance duties:
- Balances library receivables and prepares weekly deposit and report of Library Receipts for City Finance department
- Bi-weekly balancing and change maintenance of library cash drawer.
- Prepares Friends of the Library monthly deposits for cash and check donations from both direct donation and internal book sale rack.
- Review CC processing company monthly statements for accuracy and compliance
- Maintain CC transaction sheet, prepare, audit, and send weekly finance reports to City Hall at the end of each week.
Public Relations:
- Review yearly calendar, create and schedule library closure flyers for Facebook and City site. Send to appropriate person to post to City site.
- Flyers & Informational/Promotional signage design and creation using multiple platforms and software.
- Represent the library at community events and meetings with promotional materials to raise awareness of services.
Other Technical/Skilled duties:
- Create bibliographic records for new books and materials as needed in ILS.
- Oversight of interlibrary loan requests and returns through online portal, Navigator.
- Maintains yearly reports and ILL statistics. Reports to Texas State Library and Archives for postage reimbursement.
- Responsible for procuring and return of materials requested from outside libraries.
Assist with database upkeep, collection maintenance, patron database maintenance.
- Rotating LP collection – ensure outgoing batch ready for shipment, catalog incoming batch, run barcodes and shelve
- Support Spanish ST has materials needed, research and pull books for upcoming programs
- Open and inspect all incoming library package, check against invoice, release appropriate finance documents.
- Utilizing OPAC, pull patron reserves, patron contact
- Ensure current month of VA Leader displayed with no missing issues, archive oldest in the Leader drawer
- Upkeep of the Coffee Station including weekly cleaning of Keurig and daily restocking of supplies and water .
Education/Training/Experience
Bachelor’s degree or higher in related field
Preferred experience in public library or book store

- Knowledge of current trends in library services, literature, and other materials for all ages.
- Knowledge and skill in the use of troubleshooting computers.
- Skills coordinating and managing multiple projects and assignments.

- Excellent customer service skills and ability to work with the public.
- Assist the public by telephone, computer, or in person with basic reference and directional questions.
- Operate circulation software, performing circulation duties including check in, check out, establishing patron accounts, and accepting funds for fines, faxes, prints, and copies as needed. Ability to provide computer assistance to the public attaching files, handling thumb drives, creating Power Point documents, Word documents, pdf documents, and creating email accounts.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, professional development workshops & conferences, and other meetings or training as deemed necessary.
- Perform opening and closing duties including turning equipment and computers on/off, reconciling cash accounts, and reporting facilities issues to supervising library staff.
- Demonstrate willingness to perform duties in a team environment.
- Ability to sort items in alphabetical and numerical order and knowledge of Dewey Decimal classification system.
- Have flexibility to work periodic evening and monthly Saturdays as needed.
- Possess ability to use variety of office machines, including telephones, computers, fax, scanners, printers, and copiers.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
