Job description
The Project Director acts as the primary customer contact through all phases of project execution to ensure profitability is increased or at least maintained from as-sold status whilst engaging in a positive customer relationship. The Project Director will receive discrete Product deliveries from the relevant Industry Order Desks embedded within each Product Group for any bundled product project. This role coordinates the information from each IOD to fulfill the contract requirements to the customer.
They are accountable for the proper project reporting of costs, schedule, forecasting, and project P&L according to the requirements of the Global Project Execution procedures and the FLS way of working.
Project Performance Management
- Is accountable for the adherence to FLSmidth Project Management standards in the current form and future versions, as well as the continuous improvement of such standards in coordination with Global Projects Governance
- Manage project performance and identify threats early and have mitigation plans in place managing risks. Also support IOD managers in identifying project opportunities.
- Ensures that forward looking project schedules are prepared and maintained by the project teams. Such schedules shall clearly identify the critical path and enable all project team members to identify important tasks and milestones.
- Regularly meets with IOD managers and Support team members to monitor the project specific objectives.
- Monitors the utilization of the resources in the hub and balances work packages and resources to optimize the utilization.
Leadership
- Manage customer interfaces through needed interventions and communication. Maintain open communication with FLS Sales and customers to ensure satisfaction.
- Coordinate with each IOD to ensure all aspects of the Project are compatible and fulfill contractual requirements.
- Upholds all aspects of HSEQ leadership internally and externally.
- Represents the FLSmidth Global Projects Execution organization internally and externally and leads through example
- Sets clear goals and expectations for their Project team. Follows through and holds team members accountable for reaching the set targets and goals.
- Monitors the performance of the hub management team and gives early and regular feedback / takes action in case the performance is below expectations
- Provides input into the continuous improvement program with the IODs and Major Projects Group team members.
Project Reporting & Project Financials
- Ensures all Project reporting is accurate and timely. Customer reporting to rigidly follow the contract reporting criteria. Internal reporting to include detailed risk statement.
- Ensure cost and schedule forecasts are accurate. Coordinate with Finance business partner to review commitments and ensures that all project reports include a conclusive forward looking statement regarding schedule, EAC and risk.
- Commercially manages the contract to minimize all liabilities and avoid Liquidated Damages. Proactively pursues change orders and claims for all customer driven change.
- Enforces the change management process during each phase of the Project.
- Identifies and manages all project related risks.
- Supports the IODs where necessary to ensure contract schedule commitments can be achieved.
Skill Set
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering/economics/equivalent with at least 15 years of Mining industry experience with at least 10 years in capital investment projects business as a PM/PD.
- Experience managing complex scope delivery to a customer involving multiple propriety products/services.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills on a technical level with excellent interpersonal and customer relation skills
- Significant skills and broad understanding in project planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking.
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of quality project management principles and practices (i.e. project planning, forecasting, and cost tracking).
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
- Well-developed contract negotiation and contract management skills. Extensive experience in understanding contracts, specifications, and drawings
- Demonstrated computing skills and knowledge of Oracle, and Microsoft suite of systems
- Competency and empathy in intercultural relations
- Deep commercial understanding of the projects business and its commercial drivers
- Excellent leadership skills in leading international and intercultural teams in a highly complex business environment. Experience in international business and business relations with customers preferred.
Environment
- Office atmosphere: 80%, Travel: 20%
- Domestic and International travel to customer offices and project sites required.
