Position Summary:
The Project Manager is a member of our Capital projects team within the Parks and Place department and works with senior management to review and track major capital and planning projects throughout the city; working closely with government organizations such as the Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD), city agencies (DPW, SFMTA, Planning, Rec. and Parks) and neighborhood organizations (Friends of Groups, Community Benefit Districts). Our desire is for this position to take responsibility for the management of multiple exciting public space improvement and activation projects.
The project manager must be able to collaborate with outside partners and contractors, and lead within SF Parks Alliance to internally coordinate multi-year workplans and budgets. They will also need a strong design background to lead internal and external conceptual design work including producing measured drawings, renderings, diagrams, etc. They will evaluate progress made on designs and workplans that involve multiple city, community and private sector partners.
Requirements:Existing streetscape activation + public space improvement projects:
- Develop and maintain professional working relationships with city agencies, design teams and other vendors, community stakeholders, and SFPA leadership and ensure effective and sufficient communication between all parties for successful project delivery
- Work through all phases of capital improvement projects; design, community engagement and construction process from concept through design development, permitting and construction
- Maintain project work plans, schedules and budgets (including invoicing, vendor payments, check requests and grant management)
- Manage Request for Qualifications/Proposals (RFP/Q) and Bid processes when necessary for capital improvement projects requiring design services, artists, or contractors, etc.
- Create and manage SFPA’s legal contracts between contractors, city agencies and community groups
- Participate in and lead (often recurring) meetings with city and community partners
- Coordinate internally and externally on marketing and fundraising
- Public space activation production, including permitting, community coordination, material procurement, and physical ability to manage event run of show, materials and furnishings
Supervision Received:
The Project Manager will report directly to the Parks & Place Program Manager and will receive quarterly reviews as well as weekly 1-on-1 check-ins, plus ad hoc project support as needed.
Qualifications & Skills:
Minimum educational attainment required is a Bachelor's degree with a Masters degree highly desired in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Planning, Design, Public Policy, Business or related field. Excellent written and verbal skills are essential, as is excellence in working collaboratively. Strong graphic communication skills and proficiency in design software (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, AutoCAD, Rhinoceros, and/or GIS) are highly desired. Two or more years of project management and budget tracking experience is required. Able to think strategically, keeping the big picture and broad institutional objectives in mind, while also being detail and analysis-oriented to make clearly articulated decisions.
The Project Manager should be familiar with San Francisco’s neighborhoods and have experience working in coordination with local government agencies. Experience with managing outreach and public programs in diverse and underserved communities is preferred.

Job Location and Conditions:
- Duties will be carried out at various citywide sites, working from home or at the SFPA office.
- Must be available to work mornings, days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed upon event requirements.
- Willing to work outside year-round in all-weather conditions.

Location: Duties will be carried out at various citywide sites, at the SFPA Co-Lab space and is authorized for remote work at an appropriate home workspace. Co-Lab is located at 1074 Folsom Ave. SFPA supports remote work by providing employees with a laptop, cloud-based systems, and frequent team connection.
Preferred Start Date: As soon as we find the right candidate
Schedule: Full-time, exempt (ineligible for overtime), typically 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday with occasional evenings and weekends as needed. *This position is eligible to participate in our 4 day work week pilot program (Mon-Thur, 32 hrs./week, 8 hrs./day) end date TBD
