Overview:

This position will be a full-time position supporting the NASA White Sands Test Facility Propulsion Department.

This position requires working with both mechanical and electrial managers, engineers, project leads, and technician crews in both the 300 and 400 test areas in Propulsion. Candidate will observe activities in test areas and will advise on, and direct processes to ensure safe and effective operations, and ensure resource priorities are established and implemented. The Field Supervisor is a member of the Propulsion management team and will report to the PT1 Branch Manager, and will act on the behalf of the department director and PT1/PT2/PT4 branch managers in the test areas on a daily basis. This person will direct assigned team members, liason with branch managers, project leads, health and safety personnel, and crew leads about operational and safety issues in the test areas. Position is a field position, and not an office position in that most of the candidate’s time will be spent outdoors or in test stands assisting with operations in all seasons. As such, candidate must be able to routinely negotiate ladders, stairs, and steep grades. Candidate will provide mentorship and direction for mechanical and electrical crew leadmen and direct personnel resources for maximum effectiveness.

Responsibilities:
Day to day integration with Project Leads to provide resource management across Propulsion groups.

Provide supervison and technical direction to assigned direct reports.

Assist in personnel performance evaluation and feedback to Branch Managers.

Assist in safety issue resolution to include close calls and PAR/CPAR responses and actions.

Evaluate needed tooling and work items to maintain work efficiencies, and provide recommendations to management.

Other duties as assigned, including work process management and metrics tracking for areas such as maintenance tasks and open paper closures.

Qualifications:
Minimum of Four (4) years college Degree or vocational training in area of specialty plus five (5) years relevant experience in aerospace testing, or any equivalent combination of education/experience for a total of nine (9) years. Demonstrated leadership ability and good communication skills are required. Extensive experience in facility maintainance and operation, fuel handleing, cryogenics, propellant storage, fabrication of rocket test systems, high pressure systems, hazardous materials handling, and vacuum systems is required. Previous experience leading or supervising craft personnel in a union environment is required. Must have demonstrated very strong commitment to safety. Must have experience in current industrial safety best practices related to lock-out-tag-out, fall protection, and confined space entry.

Must have good verbal and written communication skills to effectively explain operations and safety practices. Candidate must be able to effectively speak to large groups on occasion. Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen. Must posses a valid state driver's license. Must pass a Federal background investigation. Must pass an employment physical and submit to drug testing.
