Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health (SNAMHS) is recruiting for multiple Psychiatric Nurse 2 positions at Rawson Neal Hospital, Las Vegas, Nevada.
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Dynamic work responsibilities include assessing and identifying patient health care needs; making comprehensive clinical observations and evaluations; prepare nursing care plans; administering medications as prescribed by a physician or designee; and monitoring patients for medication side effects and/or allergic reaction. This position will also provide crisis intervention; help develop safety plan recommendations for patients; actively participate in a multidisciplinary team managing a wide variety of patients and diagnoses; and ensure compliance with CMS standards, as well as established laws, regulations and SNAMHS policies.
These are full-time positions that may include weekend and holiday shifts. Incumbents will be working an innovative variable schedule with overtime after 40 hours in a week. Some positions may be eligible for an additional 5% Shift Differential pay.
These positions require completion of respirator fit testing and completion of Certification in Crisis Prevention Institute. SNAMHS provides continual on-going training and education to our staff, including paid release time for attending approved trainings and the availability of on-site CEUs. Incumbent must keep license, CPR certification, and Nevada Driver's License current.

Per NAC 441A, this position has been identified as a position that must enter an institution for vulnerable populations. Department of Health and Human Services new hires, who must enter an institution for vulnerable populations within the normal scope of their employment who are not vaccinated for COVID-19 must receive the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine prior to the hire’s start date and must receive all necessary doses of the COVID-19 vaccine necessary to become fully vaccinated to maintain employment.
Minimum Qualifications
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Informational Notes
- A Bachelor’s degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associate’s degree in nursing and one year of experience.
- Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of continuing employment.
