Your Role:

The successful Public Relations Specialist will utilize various techniques in the preparation and dissemination of material regarding activities for informational or educational purposes; and may coordinate public relations events or programs related to water infrastructure construction that may impact communities and residents. We are looking for a Community Outreach Team (COT) Coordinator to support numerous sewer maintenance and repair projects for the City of Los Angeles Sanitation and Environment (LASAN). The COT Coordinator will serve as a City of Los Angeles liaison between LA Sanitation & Environment (LASAN), Bureau of Engineering (BOE), Bureau of Contract Administration (BCA), Council Districts, construction managers, and constituents, such as property owners, residents, and community stakeholders.


The COT Coordinator prepares project fact sheets, provides project updates, distributes construction notices, conducts door-to-door canvasses, facilitates project briefings with Council Districts or constituents, holds community information kiosks, obtains Right-of-Entry letters, coordinates upcoming repair work on properties, and participates in project site walks. Additionally, the COT Coordinator attends regularly scheduled project progress meetings as well as partnering meetings with LASAN, BOE, BCA, and construction managers. The key goals for a successful COT Coordinator are to ensure that the public is always informed and that projects receive community support and cooperation.


This is a part-time hourly position.


Qualifications:

  • Adept in writing, composition, layout, and production of outreach, marketing, and advertising materials for various media; public relations concepts, principles, techniques, and methods; community relations concepts, principles, techniques, and methods; social media concepts and applications; and video production processes;
  • Be accessible by email, phone, or in person as needed to respond to project or community issues in a timely manner;
  • Use of proper English grammar, punctuation, spelling, and vocabulary in speech and written documents;
  • Able to utilize social media outlets to present advertising materials;
  • Able to assess and evaluate audiences and craft targeted messages to address their needs;
  • Able to translate concepts, ideas, and suggestions into practical and effective public relations programs;
  • Able to operate a personal computer;
  • Able to write effective news and features for print or electronic media, radio and television; Able to edit written materials, using basic editing marks and symbols;
  • Able to communicate and deal tactfully and effectively with others.
  • Graduation form an accredited four-year college or university including completion of at least 24 semester or 36 quarter units in public relations, journalism, or communications;
  • Each year of full-time paid professional experience in the fields of journalism, public relations, or media relations may be substituted for 12 semester-units or 18 quarter-units of the required coursework
  • Valid California driver’s license; candidates may not be eligible this position if their record reflects three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents within the last 36 months

Salary Range: $63,000 - $85,000, depending on experience.
