The Quality Improvement (QI) Specialist position is an exciting opportunity to shape and improve the way the Cambridge Public Health Department works. The QI Specialist has the privilege of working with all divisions of the health department, from community programs to business operations, both internal to the organization and external to the community. Someone in the QI Specialist role will have the opportunity to experience the field of public health from all angles and make a tangible impact on how effective we are in delivering needed care to the people of our city.
The QI Specialist will work with the Director of Performance and Quality Improvement (PMQI) to identify opportunities for improvement at the health department and guide cross-cutting teams through the quality improvement process. The QI Specialist will also assist the Director of PMQI as needed with various Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) requirements , which will provide experience in all aspects of local public health, such as data analysis, communications, emergency preparedness, employee satisfaction, policy-setting, and more. Qualifications/Requirements
Applicants to the QI Specialist position are required to have some familiarity with formal quality improvement methods, such as Lean Six Sigma, PDCA/PDSA, Kaizen, or similar. Some experience with Google Sheets or Excel is required. Professional experience or academic coursework are acceptable. Applicants without these qualifications will not be considered.

Minimum bachelor’s degree required, master’s in public health, public administration, or similar field preferred

Open to all levels of job experience and new grads, three or more years preferred

Have knowledge or experience working with public health departments or organizations

Have experience teaching QI concepts to people with different knowledge levels

Have experience and comfort with descriptive statistics

Proficiency with Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel

Be highly organized, detail-oriented, and process-driven

Have strong written and verbal communication skills

Be comfortable leading and facilitating meetings Job-Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The QI Specialist will work with the Director of PMQI on all QI-related needs of the departments. This includes but is not limited to: Conducting QI assessments, identifying potential QI opportunities, leading and facilitating QI projects, identifying or providing QI training to colleagues, and developing QI tools.
The QI Specialist will also assist the Director of PMQI in maintaining the health department’s PHAB accreditation status .
