Job description
The Quality Lab Technician position is accountable for providing timely and accurate instrumental analysis, customer, and manufacturing support for the Jefferson Hills Site. Quality Lab activities include: testing per work instructions of raw material, in-process and finished goods, communication of test results, maintenance and calibration of analytical equipment, managing lab supplies, housekeeping and safe handling and disposal of pertinent testing chemicals. The position requires daylight weekend work for part of the year, and requires being on call for after-hours testing and holiday coverage on a rotating basis. This position may oversee the training and orientation of other technical/wage roll employees, and may work with Suppliers and Customers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for checking operation, function and calibration of Analytical lab equipment.
- Manages and operates lab instrumentation, including GC, GC-MS, HPLC, XRF, FT-IR, UV, titrators, DSC, TGA, and more.
- Participates in cross organizational projects.
- Execute laboratory testing at the bench.
- Perform/record results/coordinate raw-material, in-process and finished-good quality testing per work instructions and test methods.
- Communicate results, analysis, conclusions and recommendations to Production. .Technicians/Coordinators, Lab Supervisor and/or Technical staff as necessary for corrective action and follow-up.
- Provide support to Quality Manager / Laboratory Supervisor which includes but is not limited to: directing the flow of work and assisting peers when needed to ensure efficiency, helping with new procedures and document reviews, and ensuring ISO procedures are followed.
- SAFETY - The candidate is responsible for maintaining a safe and environmentally compliant work area.
- TESTING - The candidate is responsible for performing routine and non-routine testing to monitor the Site’s Quality performance.
- DOCUMENTATION - The candidate will be required to import and manipulate data, record, and report test results, document changes to lab procedures, and other communications in an effective manner.
- ENVIRONMENTAL AND REGULATORY COMPLIANCE - The candidate will be required to assist in providing Environmental testing and work within the guidelines of ISO and cGMP Management Systems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A 4-year technical degree is required; some previous instrumental laboratory experience is preferred but not required.
- The candidate is expected to exhibit the functional and technical knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment, solve difficult problems, and work well with others.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, with an ability to learn and follow technical procedures.
- The candidate must exhibit a high attention-to-detail.
- The individual must be dedicated to meeting expectations of internal and external customers, practice active listening, speak clearly and concisely, write clearly and concisely; make decisions based on a mixture of analysis, experience, and judgment, and set objectives and goals independently.
- Demonstrated ability to function as part of a team in a high performance work environment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOP) and test methods.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel).
- Use calculator and perform basic math, including general analytical chemistry calculations.
- Ability to regularly stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to follow instructions and record data.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with co-workers.
- Motivated to learn new tasks, new concepts, new applications, etc.
- Must be able to wear required PPE.
- Must be able to meet physical requirements of position.
