New Hanover County is looking for a Real Property Data Collector to join the T ax Department.
Responsibilities for this role include:
- Under general supervision, employee will measure and record property data of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings & improvements for tax assessment purposes. Work involves but is not limited to:
- Review and verify property records for accuracy.
- Speaking with property owners to review and verify property characteristics, accuracy of data, aid in responding to property owners’ questions and provide quality customer service.
- Sketching layouts of structures; and determining the property size, type of construction, grade of materials, quality of workmanship and other related appraisal data needed to arrive at the taxable value.
- Determine the size of property improvements by creating a simple sketch of the site structures, determining the type of construction, grade of materials used, quality of workmanship and collect any other related appraisal data needed to arrive at a market value estimate for the property.
- Must exercise initiative and independent judgment in ensuring proper application of established policies and procedures to individual appraisal cases.
- Required to work outside most of the time, including times of inclement weather conditions.
- Must be able to perform assigned tasks with tact, courtesy, and empathy while being able to communicate in an effective and efficient manner to property owner and the general public of New Hanover County.
- Reports to and receives guidance from the Appraisal Supervisor.

Hours:
9:00 am - 5:00 pm, 19 hours a week
Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.

Casual Part-Time, non-exempt
Salary Information:
The hiring range for this position starts at $ 16.35/hr . Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.
