Recreation Specialist - Centennial Recreation Center

Part-Time, Year-round Position (Temporary, Non-Benefited)
Starting rate $27.00 per hour

The Centennial Recreation Center (CRC) is currently seeking a part-time teammate to join our team in providing excellent customer service. The Recreation Specialist is responsible for the supervision and operation of the Centennial Recreation Center (CRC) in partnership with the Recreation Coordinator or Supervisor and other managers in the facility. The Recreation Specialist is responsible for scheduling and providing guidance to a team of Building Coordinators and will work in ratio.

Position Description
The Recreation Specialist will assist in the daily operations of the facility, including room set-up and tear-down, assisting with facility rentals and light maintenance tasks. Position will often be responsible for opening and closing the facility on weekdays and weekends.

The Recreation Specialist will be main point of contact for a team of Building Coordinators and will manage staff schedules and training and onboarding duties. The Recreation Specialist will be assigned administrative duties that will help support the Recreation Coordinator or Supervisor.

Schedule
This is a part-time position that will work roughly 30 hours a week. Shifts will include some nights and weekends.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Ability to perform all duties of a Building Coordinator and work in that role during some shifts
  • Manage all teammates in facility while their direct supervisors are not present by providing support and ensuring accountability
  • Evaluate and maintain facility and equipment to ensure that safety standards and policies and procedures are met
  • Accurately complete daily facility checklist
  • Resolve customer issues in a professional manner with a customer first focus while adhering to policies and procedures
  • Communicate with management regarding issues, incidents or injuries that may occur.
  • Respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in emergency situations.
  • Assist in minor facility maintenance and light custodial duties (clean spills, change light bulbs, restock restroom)
  • Routinely walk through the facility and monitor customers and guests, without being intrusive, to ensure compliance with facility policies.
  • Oversee scheduled activities throughout the facility and be visible and available to answer questions and provide assistance to users.
  • Assist with hiring, training, scheduling and evaluating Building Coordinators
  • Lead regular meetings and ensure that training needs or areas of concern are addressed in a timely manner
  • Be available to work an average of 30 hours per week
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualification Requirements

Must be able to work independently, often with limited supervision or direction; adhere to safety procedures, practices, and policies of the facilities and the City of Morgan Hill; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the general public; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Education & Experience:


  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • A minimum of two year working in a recreation position.
  • Experience operating and setting up AV equipment is preferred.

Special Requirements:

  • Applicants must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must have knowledge of work safety practices and procedures.
  • Applicants must be physically capable of sustained walking, standing, or climbing.
  • Must be able to lift boxes, tables, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Applicants must be willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Applicants must follow current COVID-19 safety protocols.
Certification
Valid American Red Cross Adult and Child CPR and First Aid Certification is desirable (must be obtained in first 90 days).
