Position Summary: Provide engagement and support to refugee families and students in Tulsa Public Schools. Establish effective communication between home, schools, and district to support refugee students and families navigating the school system and securing community resources. Encourage family engagement and participation in the school community and facilitate family groups and other support services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma; Associate’s degree preferred
- Bilingual in English and target language
- Previous experience in a service oriented field preferred
Responsibilities and Essential Functions: The following duties are representative of performance expectations. A reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a qualified individual with a disability to perform essential functions.
- Contact parents and families through phone calls, home visits, and meetings at school or district in order to encourage participation in school and/or district activities and events
- Engage with families to identify their needs and challenges through various engagements including focus groups, surveys, meetings, home visits, etc.
- Provide information and assistance to parents concerning district policy and procedures including enrollment, curriculum, attendance and behavior expectations, assessment, uniforms, discipline, etc.
- Contact outside community agencies for the purpose of seeking resources and activities that will support the transition of refugee families to our community
- Coordinate with community resources to increase the participation of parents in school and parent training opportunities
- Establish and facilitate training programs to bring topics related to family and school, cultural trainings, parent support groups, etc.
- Assist with activities related to the district English Learner Parent Advisory Council (ELPAC)
- Provide interpretation services in English and the target language for parents, teachers, staff during conferences, meetings, workshops, evening events, and any other type of activity in which communication is involved
- Provide translation services for any district and school documents designed to inform parents such as letters, bulletins, announcements, calendars, notices, web page information, articles, flyers, newsletters, community resource communication, curricular, technology, food services, transportation, special education, etc.
- Maintain accurate records of all activities provided
- Promotes the overall effectiveness of the organization by performing tasks and sharing responsibilities with other members of the department/division during peak periods.
- Volunteer as opportunities present to provide student support (i.e., Reading Partners, field trip chaperones, etc.)
- Ability to work collaboratively with others on a team.
- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

- Oral and literacy proficiency in English and target language
- Strong communication and public speaking skills
- Must have flexibility to work some evenings and weekends for position related events
- Experience in the use of technology and the use of Office products
- Ability to document project-related activities and findings to communicate with collaborators and others involved
- Use of logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
- Ability to surface insight and learnings from multiple sources
- Ability to create space for productive debate and alternative perspectives
- Ability to work on multiple fast-paced, projects of varying complexity with tight deadlines, continually adapting to changing priorities
- Ability to execute, delegate effectively, and ensure project tasks are completed

- High comfort level with technology and the ability to troubleshoot issues and adept at learning new programs/platforms/applications quickly
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

- Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail and the ability to adhere to strict timelines

Supervisory Responsibility:
- This role does not directly supervise any individuals but will lead ad hoc and cross- functional project teams
Working Conditions: Exposure to the following situations may range from rare to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable.
- Regular office environment, including frequent use of electronic email, being able to sit for long periods of time without a break, etc.
- Travel to multiple school locations for meetings and services
- Drive to and from school buildings to work with school staff, walking through school buildings and helping staff lift and move things in classrooms as needed
- Must be mobile in order to attend events and meetings outside of regular work hours
- Subject to stress caused by changing environment, complexity of the organization, tight deadlines and heavy workload
- Normal effort of occasional periods of light physical activity
