Purpose of Position

Why does the job exist?
This position supports and delivers various public health programs, which may include, but is not limited to: Health Services such as Epidemiology and Response; Tuberculosis; Breast and Cervical Cancer screening and referral; STI screening, treatment and referrals; Immunizations; Family Planning; Case Management; Community Outreach; Health Promotion; and Disease Management, through advocacy, adherence to clinical protocols, standing orders, education and policies and procedures. This position will be working directly with COVID-19 on a day to day basis and is critical we hire to have a full staff. This position, once filled, will be working on COVID-19 efforts related to data and test results, as well as planning out all testing events and outreaches. This is to include registration, training on COVID, calling with results and investigation. The New Mexico Department of Health is committed to providing population based health services to assure the health and well-being of all New Mexicans. This position supports the Northeast (NE) Region of New Mexico and assures that quality health services are provided for the population.
How does it get done?
This position advises on health maintenance and disease prevention. This position administers nursing care to clients in an autonomous environment by utilizing the laws, principle, practices, standing orders, and techniques of professional nursing. This position must make program-specific decisions per protocols, and prioritize client needs accordingly, and must address any issue not covered in protocols with Regional Health Officer/Clinician.
Who are the customers?
This positions serves the population of New Mexico and specifically the population of the NE Region especially Los Alamos. who might otherwise not have access to services. The RN supports the functions of the providers, clerks, and other program staff to achieve common public health goals.

Minimum Qualification
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico OR eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements OR Eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.
Employment Requirements
Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) course. Most possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico or must pass and received Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
