Position Definition:

The incumbent will serve as the Research Assistant/Recruiter for two investigator initiated research studies. The first study is working to examine doxazosin as a treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder and the second study is using ambulatory technology to understand sleep disturbance in PTSD. The Research Assistant will also work on other studies as needed. This research is being conducted by researchers from the San Francisco VA Medical Center; Northern California Institute for Research and Education (NCIRE); and University of California, San Francisco.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with subject recruitment, including placing advertisements, phone screening prospective participants, working with the team to schedule research subjects; collect clinical and demographic data
  • Schedule and organize visits for all study procedures: blood collection, screening procedures, video visits, phone visits, and interviews
  • Guiding participants in proper use of at-home data collection devices (EEG, Actigraphy, and Apnealink) and operating all relevant software in collaboration with the Sleep Data Coordinator. This involves ensuring coverage for evening support (approximately 40% of nights or 2-3 evenings per week including Friday), with alternating shifts with another research assistant.
  • Perform data entry, downloading, scanning, and verification.
  • Assist with purchasing of study supplies.
  • Maintain and update databases, subject information folders, and subject payment forms
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an associated field
  • Preferred: 1-2 Years of research experience
  • Good organizational and computer skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Willing and available to work a flexible schedule in order to accommodate participant visits as needed (i.e. is comfortable with late evening hours, occasional brief weekend calls, etc.)
  • Comfort recruiting, interviewing, and talking with participants on the phone and over video
  • Preferred: Prior experience with sleep or PTSD related research
