Department Overview:The Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute (VGTI) at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) has assembled a multidisciplinary team of scientists to respond to serious viral disease threats, including AIDS, chronic viral infection-associated diseases, newly emerging viral diseases and infectious diseases of the elderly. Our programs are intended to span the continuum between basic and clinical science, in which discoveries are rapidly advanced from the level of molecular and cellular biology through animal models and ultimately into clinical testing. The development of this unique program in immunology and virology provides an important training opportunity for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at OHSU. This is why an important part of our mission is the training of young scientists in newer academic disciplines emerging at the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute.
Function/Duties of Position:
This position will be responsible for performing work as part of a research team that investigates vaccines, drugs, and immune responses against emerging human viruses such as mosquito transmitted agents, SARS-CoV-2, and monkeypox.
The successful candidate will be required to perform standardized experimental procedures involving in vitro and in vivo models and collect, curate and analyze biological data, and prepare experimental reports.
Numerous opportunities exist including acquisition of a variety of laboratory skills, individual research project development, and exposure to novel scientific models.
Excellent record keeping, communication skills, organizational skills, and ability to adhere to protocols required.
Please note this is a position at OHSU West Campus (Beaverton).
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelors Degree (4 yr.) with major courses in field of research/No Experience, OR AA (2 yr.) and 3 years of relevant experience OR 4 years of relevant experience OR equivalent combination of training and experience.
Job related skills, abilities, and knowledge: Basic computer skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Major college-level or graduate courses in biological science, microbiology, immunology, or animal science.
Experience: Cellular and molecular laboratory experience, small animal handling experience.
Job related skills, abilities, and knowledge: Basic molecular and tissue culture laboratory skills, mouse handling, flow cytometry skills
