Work Unit Description
The Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences is an independent research institute within OHSU that is dedicated to health and safety in the workplace. The Institute receives its base funding from the Oregon Workers’ Compensation Fund and leverages this base funding to secure federal government grants in basic, clinical, and applied research. The Institute performs biomedical/occupational research and innovation for a healthy workforce, to improve workers’ lives across the nation, particularly in Oregon.

Functions/Duties of Position
The successful candidate will work on various projects under Saurabh S. Thosar, Ph.D., with immediate supervision by his senior research staff. Dr. Thosar’s research aims to understand the effects of common behaviors, such as sleep and exercise, and the circadian system on cardiovascular health in humans. Function/Duties of Position:
Assisting with several multi-day and overnight studies involving measurements of vitals (blood pressure, heart rate, height, weight, etc.), vascular imaging (ultrasound), and sleep monitoring (electroencephalogram, actigraphy). Recruiting and enrolling study participants. Analyzing study data. Submitting documents to OHSU’s Institutional Review Board and carrying out administrative tasks. Performing general lab maintenance, including cleaning equipment and the lab facility, taking supplies inventory, and making computer database entries.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field OR
  • Associate’s degree plus 3 years of relevant experience OR
  • 4 years of relevant experience OR
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Experience in clinical research, primarily related to human subjects research
  • Ability to work regular overnight and weekend hours while monitoring research participants
  • Ability to work both independently and in a small-group setting
  • Ability to interact in a positive and productive manner with a diverse lab community
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Good organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent written/spoken communication skills
  • Integrity at all times in interactions with others and in performing research
  • Discretion at all times when dealing with sensitive issues to maintain participant confidentiality
  • Self-motivation and an ability to prioritize effectively and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Specialized experience in exercise science, circadian rhythm, or sleep research
  • Experience working effectively with racially and ethnically diverse populations
