Assists with and adheres to Institutional Review Board (IRB) renewal, modification, and approved protocols. Recruits research subjects and conducts interviews and research assessments.
This is a full-time Research Assistant position in the Department of Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh. This position entails leading efforts for collecting data (e.g., administering cognitive and achievement measures to children and conducting parent interviews) for a longitudinal study of elementary-school aged children and their parents from low-income families. This individual will also assist with training and coordinating data collection visits with undergraduates. Finally, they are charged with organizing study protocols and recruitment materials. Because the sample includes a sensitive population, the position demands a high level of interpersonal skill and professionalism, and ease in working with adults and young children. This position also requires a high degree of flexibility and willingness to work “odd hours” (e.g., evenings and weekends) to accommodate families’ scheduling needs. The individual will have flexibility to work from home if tasks are fulfilled in a timely manner. They also will work with the supervisor to create a professional development plan from the Pitt Parent and Children Laboratory’s and University’s wide offering of opportunities, based on their own interests and professional goals.

Essential Functions Conducting Laboratory Assessments with Research Participants: - Administering standardized cognitive and academic achievement assessments with reliability and validity. - Scoring and entering assessment scores into data entry systems. - Interviewing parents about their own and their child’s wellbeing. - Making precise global ratings of parent and child behavior from the assessment sessions – Scheduling visits with the family within prescribed time constraints. – Allaying any fears and reassuring participants about all procedures. Assisting with training undergraduate students to assist with data collection visits - Supervising undergraduates during data collection visits - Completing recruitment and retention mailings. - Working with SB team to find and schedule hard to reach participants and families. May include traveling to participant homes to verify addresses and/or conduct in-home sessions. Working with supervisor to create a professional development plan based on their own interests and goals
