GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

A full-time POST-DOCTORAL FELLOW position is open in the Neurodisparities and Health Justice Research Group under the direction of Dr. Altaf Saadi at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. The postdoc will work with collaborators in the Disparities Research Unit, Center for Health Outcomes and Interdisciplinary Research, and the MGH Asylum Clinic to adapt a cognitive rehabilitation program for asylum-seekers and refugees with traumatic brain injury, as well as to assist with the other research projects in the lab. Other studies relate to health-related needs and outcomes among immigrants, refugees, and asylum-seekers, with a focus on those with cognitive impairment, traumatic brain injury and comorbid psychiatric issues, including individuals in the community and in immigration detention. Collaborators are multidisciplinary and passionate about improving care for marginalized populations through policy-oriented and community engaged research.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibilities of the postdoc will include conducting projects using community participatory research and mixed methods methodologies, including conducting and analyzing interview and survey data. Postdoc candidates are expected to analyze and present data regularly, write manuscripts and grant/fellowships, and actively coordinate and communicate with collaborators.


SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

This position requires independence, effective communication, critical thinking, multi-tasking, organization, ability to work in a collaborative research environment, and ability to work with marginalized patient groups.

Candidates should describe familiarity with software packages such as qualitative coding software (e.g., DeDoose), statistical software packages (e.g., R, SAS, or Stata), and data management and survey tools (e.g., Redcap or Qualtrics) in their cover letter.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience with immigrant or forcibly displaced populations, and familiarity with neuropsychiatric outcomes. Spanish fluency is a plus.


EDUCATION:

MD, PhD or equivalent degree is required in a relevant discipline. This may include public health, psychology, among others. Candidates should describe in their cover letter how their specific academic background is relevant to the research goals of the lab.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable):

The applicant will be expected to play an informal role in mentoring trainees in the research group.
