The primary purpose of the position is to help achieve departmental and divisional goals by providing student support services and educational programming while maintaining facilities that are safe, attractive, sustainable, and well maintained. This is a live-in position.

Establish and maintain communication with students living in the facility through individual contacts, meetings, and discussions.

- Serve as a mediator/facilitator when necessary to provide resolutions for interpersonal conflicts between students.
- Develop and maintain awareness of community issues for students in the facility through communication with area Residence Life staff and initiate efforts to respond to such issues.
Meet with students and serve as Conduct Hearing Officer for students referred for disciplinary concerns; enact appropriate conduct sanctions and/or developmental counseling to effectively resolve disciplinary problems in consultation with the Associate Director and/or Director of Housing and Residence Life or Director of Student Conduct.
Assume “on-call” responsibility for all area residence halls and apartments on a scheduled basis. Participate in the overall planning and management of Housing and Residence Life and provide input in the development of policies and procedures
- Work efficiently and cooperatively with applicable personnel/staff to respond to all emergency and crisis situations.
- Serve as a resource for staff and students in dealing with specific residence hall and apartment problems including roommate conflicts, personal and emotional problems, diversity issues, and other developmental concerns; Develop a familiarity with campus and community resources to ensure timely, efficient referrals when appropriate.
Supervise Graduate Assistant (where applicable) & undergraduate students working as Resident Advisors student staff (resident advisors, desk assistants) in assigned area(s) in Housing and Residence Life.
- Evaluate work performance in accordance with Department and University goals, objectives, policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with procedures.
Participate in recruitment, selection and training for all Resident Advisors. Create and implement staff development programs in conjunction with the Associate Director; attend, participate in and help plan, professional development sessions and training.
Assist in the administration of the departmental assessment plan including; administering the Quality of Life Survey and student focus groups.
- Adheres to and upholds the ethical standards of the profession as outlined by the Association of Colleges and University Housing Officers – International (ACUHO-I)
- Participates in summer projects including but not limited to summer conferences, ad hoc committee work, building preparations, & summer orientation
- Participate on task forces, and group goal planning and objective setting.
- Foster and maintain effective working relationships with various campus departments; including, but not limited to: Facilities, Campus Police, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Student Health Services, other departments within Student Affairs and throughout the campus community.
Serve as facility manager including conducting room checks, reporting and following up on housekeeping, maintenance and facilities requests.
- Coordinate facility turnover and damage billing process over summer and winter break periods. Serve as facility manager for community center to include conducting building checks, following up on maintenance issues, and facilitate equipment and room usage
- Assist the Central Housing Staff in planning for summer renovations, making recommendations for the purchase of furnishings and equipment, recommending improvements to housekeeping services, and preventative maintenance and safety measures.
