Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:

Knowledge of patient responses, side effects and proper dosages used in respiratory care. Able to communicate effectively with Physicians, patients, other managers, the public and with administration. Ability to assess and reassess patients for basic respiratory care. Able to recognize and report abuse and neglect in patients. Knowledge of pulmonary function values and knowledge of generally accepted practices in respiratory care as prescribed by the physician. Delivers, set up, maintains and utilizes evaluatory judgement from routine and non-routine prescription in utilization of respiratory care equipment.

POPULATION SERVED:

Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) served: Pulmonary conditions including but not limited to: COPD, CHF, PE, asthma, and all other constrictive and restrictive pulmonary disorders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Uses knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and emergency procedures to provide safe and effective patient care.
• Maintains strict infection control techniques at all times.
• Practices, develops and endorses customer service skills in relationships with internal and external customers.
• Participate in Quality Improvement activities as assigned.

What qualifications you will need:

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED: (list required and preferred separately)

• High School graduate or equivalent.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: (list required and preferred separately)

• Proof of enrollment (i.e. transcripts) in E.P.C.C Respiratory Care program, or other accredited program.
• Current BCLS certification required.
• TMB temporary permit required upon completion/graduation from program
• Permanent TMB license MUST be obtained within 6 months of completion/graduation.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED: (list required and preferred separately)

• Hospital experience and/or some healthcare experience preferred

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

• Reads and writes basic English with the basic skills necessary to transfer Physician’s orders.
• Knowledge of universal precautions.
• Ability to listen, empathize and respond to patient, family, internal and external partner’s needs.
• PROCEDURES LIMITED TO NON-INVASIVE, FLOOR THERAPY ONLY, to include oxygen therapy, nebulizer and positive pressure therapy, bi-level positive pressure therapy, and attendance at all emergency codes.
