Summary: Under the supervision of the Manager of Respiratory Therapy Services, provides direct patient care services and other related functions in support of the Respiratory Department and all areas of the hospital. Performs independently within the scope of the department policies. Responsible for the safe and effective respiratory patient care, under physician orders, as required for age groups: infants, children, adolescents, adults, geriatric, frail and elderly patients. Performs diagnostic tests including pulmonary function tests and arterial blood gas drawing and analysis, according to departmental policy and procedures.
Qualifications: Licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Graduate of Respiratory Therapy Program. Certification in Respiratory Therapy required. Registered Respiratory Therapy preferred. BLS required/ACLS preferred. Preferred minimum of one year clinical experience. Displays good communication skills, initiative, versatility, and positive interpersonal skills. Normal visual acuity and manual dexterity, including color vision for perceiving changes in the skin. Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, stoop and reach for equipment, supplies and patients up to 50 pounds without assistance, over 50 pounds with mechanical or other personnel assistance OR equivalent combination of the above
