RN INFECTION PREVENTIONIST
Job description
SUMMARY: Evaluates quality of patient care and patient outcomes as they relate to healthcare-associated infections; collects, prepares and analyzes healthcare-associated infection data; presents infection data and makes recommendations for actions; monitors employee compliance in use of barriers and infection prevention measures; prepares and presents educational offerings for the staff; serves as a resource to all departments and personnel. Works as a RN on the floors as needed for all shifts. Monitors clinical setting for compliance with regulatory requirements, i.e., Joint Commission, DMH, CMS, DHR, OSHA, etc. Responsible for implementation of new policies/procedures/documentation. Ensures that Infection Control policies are complete and current. Serves on Safety, Antibiotic Stewardship, and Infection Control Committees. Perform infection control assessments to be in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards. Acts as Lead in communicable disease surveillance. Complete all disease surveillance forms and report as reportable diseases to local and state health departments. Performs outbreak investigations and reports to local and state health department if necessary. Identifies, assists, counsels, and refers employees who have been exposed to blood/body fluids. Monitor and tracks employee illness to determine necessary interventions and/or work restrictions. Works cooperatively with the DON when communicable diseases are identified. Performs in-services as required and/or requested to assure infection control is provided to all employees. Collects all infection surveillance form and inputs data into database and report findings. Follow up on antibiotic protocols after 72 hours of initiation of antibiotic therapy.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. - A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a hospital setting required
- Certification in Infection Prevention/APIC Certification highly desired
- Must have the ability to work independently and to learn the applications of Quality Improvement principles.
- Accuracy in work performance and valuing of documentation are mandatory characteristics.
- Computer and typing skills are helpful.
- Must possess planning, organization, implementation, and assessment skills.
- Must have desire and ability to effectively train and educate all staff.
- Must be flexible in scheduling to fulfill training and education needs on all shifts, including nights and weekends.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: RN graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Alabama preferred
