Position Summary

Under general direction of the Director of High School Programs or upper-level staff, the Academic Advisor/ Admissions Program Specialist III assist students to ensure that all students graduate from high school with the focus on high school graduation requirements. The position acts as a program liaison and provides consultation to program participants and outside entities regarding functions of the program and coordinates the preparation and completion of regulatory and compliance documents, ensuring documents satisfy federal, state, and local government requirements. This position will interpret, review and apply program specific policies, procedures, and regulations. In conjunction with those that pertain to K-12 dual enrollment programs.
The nature of the work is professional, the position performs complex duties and operates at the journey or fully qualified level. The overall of focus of the Running Start Academic Advisor's work is to assess student needs and provide services and communication that guide the student toward educational solutions that are responsive to these needs, to navigate high school graduation requirements and college AA Degree requirements, or to assist students in leveraging dual credits and admissions to four-year universities.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

Annual Salary: $55,752 - $73,248.

Annual salary will be commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

We offer comprehensive compensation package with salary and benefits as the main components. Competitive salary is within the Range stated above, and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This is a Classified, overtime eligible position and represented by the Washington Public Employee Association of Higher Education (WPEA-HE).

About the Department

The Center for High School Programs is the steward of the under-age dual enrollment and registration systems at Bellevue College. This department recruits, enrolls, assesses, and guides students toward graduation from high school/home school and college. It ensures seamless transactions through the academic path of the student, while maintaining the integrity of student records. The Center for High School Programs strives to create a vibrant campus community that supports a diverse student body, faculty, and staff. Essential Functions

Provide direct advising and academic services in a one-on-one or group setting:

Meet with students one-on-one in-person, via phone, or via video conferencing software, specifically Microsoft Teams
Lead group sessions as needed and assigned utilizing a variety of presentation software, including Microsoft Teams
Guide students through the process of identifying their pathway and attaining their educational and career goals, in partnership with K-12 Secondary Education (high school graduation requirements), while completing the State of Washington High School Graduation requirements.
Teach students to select and sequence coursework and effectively use the tools and resources necessary for successful program/major clarification including high school graduation requirements, degree, or certificate completion at the college.
Assess student needs and apply student success and advising techniques to serve students from diverse backgrounds and, more specifically, College in the High Scholl students with disabilities, Running Start students.
Perform unofficial credit evaluations for enrollment purposes, program graduation, prerequisite clearance, and course selection, keeping in mind Bellevue College credit evaluation guidelines and policies.
Interpret English and Math placement results, advising students on the proper course selection/sequence.
Maintain confidential student records and adhere to FERPA guidelines.
Suggest coursework for the purpose of high school graduation requirements, in line with K-12 high school and secondary education consultation.
Consult with fellow staff and outside entities to identify problems, explore solutions and alternatives, and recommend resolutions specific to student circumstances and needs. Provide collaborative and supportive intervention/outreach to students and appropriate referrals to faculty, other departments, and high school counselors.

Dual Credit Advising Outreach and Recruitment Coordination:
Organize, participate and represent the college in advising outreach efforts, which promote the college to current high school students, Dual Credit Programs, potential students, parents, faculty, and staff.
Work with students to create their educational plan at BC (Bellevue College) and for their HS graduation.
Provide outreach information sessions for the Running Start Program at high schools, community venues and on the BC campus.
Develop and revise both online and in-person content material for advising Running Start Program students and College in the High School students.
Manage advising inventory and for outreach materials, for the Running Start Program and the College in the High School Program. Order and request new materials.
Document, collect, and report meaningful contact information of prospective students in Target X and/or software system as appropriate.
Maintain up-to-date record keeping for all assigned students and utilizes specifics to proactively communicate with student.
Participate in committees or other groups to support departmental and/or college-wide goals to advocate for underage student needs.
Provide direct services and information and assistance to students:

Create a welcoming environment for the diverse underage students and their parent/guardian Bellevue College community.
Answer frequent questions through in-person interactions, email, phone, and the online ticketing system, about admissions, residency, registration, Running Start funding, transfer of credit, testing and placement, and graduation; provide comprehensive information, guidance, recommendations, and resources.
Interpret and explain enrollment policies and procedures regarding dual credit to students, faculty, staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds.
Communicate rules and practices governing confidentiality laws such as FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act).
Work cooperatively with departments, staff, faculty, and administrators across campus, and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.
Actively participate in Center for High Scholl Programs Office and Running Start team meetings.

Define needs and planning, designing, and developing specialized program activities:

Assist department staff with K-12 Underage quarterly documentation processing for student registration. Check the accuracy of admissions data entry and online late registrations; Running Start, and College in the High School, with admissions and registration processing.
Assist with updating the Center for High School Programs enrollment and registrar processes and Procedures Manual.
Monitor and track participant eligibility and participation in program activities.
Assist students via the Center for High School Programs Front Desk, video system, center email and center telephone lines.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. Relevant work experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Two (2) years' experience working in Washington State K-12 Dual Enrollment Programs.
Two (2) years' experience interpreting and following policies, procedures and federal and state regulations.
One (1) year of academic advising, educational planning, or career advising in a higher education setting.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and adhere to complex policies, procedures, adhering to K-12 state and Federal laws;
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with underage students, parents, high school staff, school district staff, college staff and faculty all diverse ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Effective time management and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and/or within a team environment, which promotes collaboration and cooperation to achieve team goals and deliverables.
Experience with presenting information to large and small audiences, in a variety of settings.
Demonstrated ability to pay attention to details and ensure accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in Education, Communication, Psychology, or related field from an accredited institution.
One (1) year of demonstrated experience advising students in a community college setting or relaying information related to university transfer, admissions process, policies, articulations, and requirements.
Two (2) or more years' full-time experience, or equivalent part-time experience, working as a subject matter expert (SME) in a Student Information System (SIS) such as PeopleSoft, Target X, Microsoft and Titanium.
Demonstrated experience using multiple modalities and Universal Design principles in one-on-one and group advising settings.
Demonstrated experience using degree audit systems and performing unofficial transcript reviews.
Demonstrated experience presenting and leading advising related workshops to students, college staff, and faculty. Experience working within an integrated academic and career advising department or system; ability to articulate the relationship between college major and career exploration.
