Job description
The Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting for Occupational Safety and Health Consultants in the Glendive and Great Falls Districts. This position may be located in Great Falls or Glendive, Miles City, or Wolf Point. The Safety Consultant provides professional development, implementation, and management of occupational safety and health, employee safety, and risk management programs for the agency at the district level. The position serves as the District expert on the implementation and administration of safety programs; interpretation of safety regulations; safety awareness; safety training, and safety compliance. The position does not supervise others.
The Occupational Safety Consultant will travel extensively, up to 50% of the time, throughout their District and occasionally throughout the state. Driver’s record will be verified. Successful applicants will be required to sign a release form which authorizes the Department to obtain the applicant’s permanent driving records. Compliance with Mont. Admin. R. 2.6.201, "State Vehicle Use," and MDT Policy # 6.03.001, "Addendum to Risk Management and Tort Defense Division State Vehicle Use Policy" are conditions of employment.

Qualifications
The required knowledge and skills are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Environmental Health, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
This position requires a minimum of two years of directly related experience interpreting federal and other safety regulations and guidelines, compliance, insurance, risk management, workers’ compensation laws/claims, hazardous materials, adult training, or closely related experience.
Alternative qualifications include: Any combination of additional related work experience and education equivalent to the minimum qualifications.
