Our Shipyard History: Founded in 1916 by D. R. Dunlap, our Gulf Coast shipyard first began as the Alabama Dry Dock and Shipbuilding Company. SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Inspects work areas and/or work practices to ensure compliance with the Job-Risk-Assessment (JRA) and Permit-To-Work (PTW) process. Prepares and maintains reports related to safety and the environment, as necessary. Interfaces with customer representatives.

Essential job duties include:

  • Works alone and makes decisions beneficial to the HSE program.
  • The ability to walk and/or stand for up to 12 hours daily.
  • Lift 50 pounds and work at heights greater than 100’.
  • Able to climb ladders and work in confined spaces.
  • CPR/Basic first aid training and/or first responder certification.
  • Validate and approve workplace permits for all crafts inside the facility and on assigned projects.
  • Identify and eliminate workplace hazards per maritime industry standards.
  • Conduct workplace risk assessments and write job risks analysis for all crafts.
  • Work a shift rotation of ten plus (10+) hours seven days a week when required.
  • Recognize workplace hazards and enforce applicable control measures.
  • Assist in emergency rescue, first aid, CPR, firefighting, and company safety initiatives.
  • Cease operation and/or call a safety time-out when necessary.
  • Works under the general supervision of the HSEQ Manager
Requirements:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Completion of standard High School Diploma supplemented by training in first aid.

  • Prior shipyard safety inspector's experience is a plus; or any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Successfully completed an OSHA maritime training course.
  • Shipyard Competent Person, trained/certified in CPR, basic first aid, or other emergency responder training.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily demonstrate the following:

  • Excellent knowledge of the Signal Work Permit/Job Risk Assessment process/program.
  • Considerable/extensive knowledge of state and Federal regulations relative to safety, health, and the environment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, current records and generate complete and timely reports.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees.

HSEQ Roles and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Comply with all relevant statutory, legal, industry, and client HSEQ regulations including the international standards of ISO 9001:2015
  • Utilize effective tools and software to manage the company’s HSEQ initiatives (EHS Insight)
  • Hold leaders accountable for HSEQ performance
  • Communicate to the workforce the standards for working safely
  • Define clear & concise quality objectives throughout the organization
  • Develop the required training to ensure the workforce is equipped for success
  • Collaborate between company employees, contractors, and clients to assess and control the risks associated with planned and ongoing work
  • Maintain an objective measurement system for ongoing evaluation to assess HSEQ performance and our processes to constantly improve and establish best practices
