Job Duties/Scope Of Work
The Safety Specialist will perform all work safely and in compliance with environmental obligations using the core functions and core elements of the Integrated Safety Management System and Environmental Management System (ISMS/EMS). This is a field position and will be assigned full time to support the HMIS Safety and Health Field Support organization.
Essential Job Duties of this position include:
- Provide technical support in the identification, evaluation, and control of occupational safety and health hazards.
- Develop and assist line management and the Employee Zero Accident Council in the effective implementation and compliance of the safety and health programs and procedures.
- Perform pre-job safety and health planning using tools such as the Job Hazard Analysis process.
- Participate in safety meetings.
- Provide supplemental/informal safety and health training for all organizations as requested.
- Assist employees and management in the resolution of employee safety concerns.
- Assist management in the performance of worksite safety and health inspections and correcting unsafe acts and conditions.
- Assist management in the performance of accident investigations.
- Participate in fact-findings and causal analysis of injuries and events.
- Participate in the performance of the annual Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Self Assessment.
- Develop Lessons Learned and Just-In-Time notices for distribution throughout the Hanford Site.
- Review and approve project-level safety and health procedures.
- Assist management in the development and maintenance of Employee Job Task Analyses to ensure employees are enrolled in the appropriate medical surveillance program.
- Perform ergonomic assessments.
- Support focus teams appointed to reduce and/or eliminate injury trends or recognized hazards.
- Support sitewide safety programs and committees for hoisting and rigging, electrical, excavation, lockout/tagout, beryllium, confined space, etc.
- Other job duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelors degree in Industrial Safety or Basic Science and a minimum of 5 years of Safety and Health related work experience - OR - or an equivalent combination of education and/or related work experience.
Desired Qualifications
* Certified Safety Professional designation: Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) or Construction Health and Safety Technologist (CHST) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
