School Crossing Guard Coordinator (Part Time)
Job description
This is currently a part-time position with the Town of Flower Mound.
Reports to the School Crossing Guard Supervisor and assists in scheduling, coordinating, and managing crossing guard operations to ensure pedestrian safety at Town designated school crossing locations.
- Assists supervisor in coordination and oversight of school crossing guards assigned to multiple sites.
- Performs routine field checks to ensure appropriate staffing and safety of school crossing locations.
- Schedules School Crossing Guards at Town designated locations; reports unstaffed school crossing locations and works with supervisor to coordinate substitutes for vacant locations.
- Communicates potential safety issues to supervisor and community stakeholders.
- Monitors and reports pedestrian counts at assigned school crossing locations; makes staffing recommendations.
- Prepares and submits required reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Communicates safe street crossing procedures and related information to students, adults, and Crossing Guards.
- Gains cooperation of children and reports uncooperative or unsafe behavior of children to district staff and/or supervisor.
- Assists with recommendations for hiring and termination, performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary processes; trains crossing guards on procedures and expectations.
- Performs the duties of a School Crossing Guard.
- Complies with personnel and safety regulations, and Town and department policies and procedures.
- Sets up school crossing guards with appropriate accesses; maintains employees in the time management system.
- Purchases and maintains division safety supply inventory.
- Reviews and approves hours for payroll processing.
- Receives and resolves issues and concerns from crossing guards regarding sites, including scheduling.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a valid state-issued Driver's License and driving record must be in compliance with Town policy.
- A High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required.
- School Crossing Guard experience is preferred.
- Ability to work flexible hours, to include all shifts and sites necessary to accommodate crossing guard schedule.
Must submit to and pass a post-offer, non-regulated drug test and thorough background checks (including criminal history).
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
Must have knowledge of safe crossing guard procedures.- Must have basic knowledge of and ability to use the computer and Microsoft Office software.
- Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing.
- Ability to perceive and respond to potential hazardous and uncertain situations.
- Ability to respond quickly to potential emergency situations.
- Ability to bend from the waist and twist.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, including exposure to extreme heat, cold, and inclement weather.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with Town employees, school district staff and the public.
- Ability to travel to and from assigned school crossing locations.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
- Must be able to read, see, hear, talk, write, and sit for long periods of time.
- Must be able to stand and walk continuously for up to one and a half (1 ½) hours.
- Must be able to repeatedly lift and carry objects weighing up to 5 lbs. upright continuously for 1 to 2 minutes at a time.
- Must be able to hear and see approaching traffic.
- Must be able to bend arms, and push/pull a child weighing up to 100 lbs.

Employees who violate the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule will be subject to discipline, up to and including termination.
Regular Part Time employees accrue 3.34 hours of vacation leave and 4 hours of sick leave per month. All regular employees who are scheduled to work a minimum of one thousand (1,000) hours annually will participate in the Texas Municipal Retirement System.
