Department overview
Nomura is looking for a strong 3+ years experienced professional to join the global SRE Monitoring Team. This team is the custodian of our Monitoring framework and is thus responsible to help administer and support the production environment.
Role description
The individual will be a part of our US based Monitoring team and shall be responsible to provide support for our monitoring tools. The candidate will work closely with his peers in other regions as well as with the engineering teams to facilitate the strategic objectives of the team.
Day to day responsibilities will require dealing with both off the shelf as well as home grown solutions. These tools include Splunk, RiverMuse, SMARTS, SevOne, ThousandEyes, EverBridge, Grafana, Loki, Cortex knowledge of monitoring tools/domain is a must.
Aspiring individual must be a quick learner and be able to understand and support the complex production ecosystem. To that end, they should be familiar with industry standards and best practices in terms of managing releases / changes / incidents / requests etc. We expect the individual to leverage skills and production support experience to find solutions to problems without causing any impact to production.
We'd prefer an individual who can innovative and find opportunities to improvise either via process improvement or automation and is self-motivated as well as motivates others to be a driver of change. Needs to be a team player and foster a healthy and conductive environment in the team where everyone is supportive and respectful of other's opinions.
Team leading experience would be an advantage.
Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required
Masters or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science / Information Technology or a related field, or proven equivalent experience.
Must Have Experience (in precedence order):
- At least 3 years' experience in Monitoring tools and technologies (in an administrative capacity) for a medium/large scale enterprise infrastructure. Experience in end to end instrumentation of monitoring for various teams, configuring event correlation / de-duplication criteria etc.
- Good to have - DevOps Tools and technologies (at least some). Preferably GitLab, Jenkins, Ansible, Nexus etc.
- Supporting a medium / large scale production environment
- Solid hand-on Linux experience Sound troubleshooting skills and basic-intermediate administrative concepts. Strong hold on general purpose commands.
- Sound knowledge of ITIL
- Decent understanding of DB Platforms Sybase / MySQL / MSSQL general RDBMS concepts, SQL
- Basic knowledge of / familiarity with other infrastructure technologies such as Middleware (ActiveMQ / Solace / EMS / Tibco etc.), Web servers, Load balancers, Directory Services etc.
Development (desirable):
- Shell Scripting
- Python / Ruby
- JSON/XML
- Using APIs
Environment Tools (desirable):
- Any Cloud Service Platform (preferably AWS)
- Monitoring Tools Splunk, Grafana, Loki, Cortex, SMARTS, ThousandEyes etc.
- Source code control platforms (Eg. Git)
- Continuous integration (Eg. Jenkins)
- Collaboration tools (Eg. Confluence, JIRA)
- Configuration & deployment tools (Eg. Ansible / Puppet)
