Arlington County's Department of Environmental Services (DES) is hiring a Security Administrator to join the Facilities Management Bureau (FMB) to manage, coordinate and oversee the physical security and access control to various County facilities. The FMB is responsible for maintenance and operation of all County facilities. This position will report to the Facilities Management Bureau Chief.
Duties Include:
Managing the County’s electronic access control systems, which includes badging for employees and contractors, troubleshooting, coordinating repairs, and monitoring alerts;- Conducting reviews of security and security systems and operations within County facilities to identify risks and assess the security of County facilities;
- Reviewing and auditing security contracts, systems and performance;
- Maintaining program data and developing reports on equipment operation and maintenance for use development of budget proposals and CIP requests;
- Collaborating with Arlington County Police Department and other departments to prepare video footage investigations in response to security incidents;
- Coordinating with DTS on the network connectivity for new equipment installation;
- Administering the security personnel contract and developing post orders and rotations; and
- Responding to after-hours requests/issues for security access to County facilities.
The successful candidate will have exceptional customer service skills and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including county personnel, contractors, laborers, engineers, managers, planners, and citizens. This position requires understanding of applicable local/state/federal regulations.
Minimums: Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school, completion of a GED certificate, or equivalent and considerable experience in progressively responsible administrative support functions.
Substitution: Successful completion of college coursework from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree in related field, plus experience in one or more of the following:
Overseeing security protocols for multiple locations;- Security software administration including Lenel, Milestone, Briefcam, OnGuard, etc;
- Analyzing budget and productivity of security contracts;
- Collaborating with internal/external customers;
- Reading and understanding building blueprints;
- Handling conflict/crisis management;
- Providing leadership to contracted security personnel; and/or
- Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat or similar PDF document handler.
The applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid Driver License, or the ability to use alternative methods of transportation to perform duties at other locations. If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, they must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide a copy of official driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.
A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a background check.

Work hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with flexibility on scheduled hours. Off-hours and/or weekend hours may be required on an as-needed basis.
This position’s official classification is Administrative Technician II.
