Job Title: Security Guard
Department: Operations
Reports To: Facilities Director
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Function: Non-clinical
Classification: Regular, Full Time, 40 hours/week
Schedule: Monday-Friday (see below for rotating shifts)
Location: Onsite (Rincon/Valley Center, CA)

  • $1.00/hour shift differential for shifts beginning at 12:00pm and later

SUMMARY
Responsible for surveillance and protection of the Rincon clinic. Monitors and protects industrial or commercial property against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry by performing the following duties. Shifts are on a rotating basis and are from 7:00am-3:00pm, 10:00am-6:30pm, and 1:00pm-9:30pm. Must be flexible to work all three shifts.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Patrols, periodically, buildings and grounds of IHC property.
2. Crisis response and conflict resolution.
3. Examines doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.
4. Warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and reports to the proper authorities persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts.
5. Provides navigation services to designated patients.
6. Inspects equipment and machinery to ascertain if malfunction or tampering has occurred.
7. Watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.
8. Observes departing personnel to guard against theft of company property.
9. Sounds alarm or calls police or fire department by telephone in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
10. Permits authorized persons to enter property.
11. Records data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment, for use of supervisory staff.
12. Writes incident reports, route logs and inspection logs.
13. Acts as back up for Housekeeping team when needed.
14. Ensures that thermostatic controls are maintained to specified temperature in buildings or cold storage rooms.
15. Regulates vehicle and pedestrian traffic at clinic entrance to maintain orderly flow.
16. Provides security at onsite clinic events.
17. Responds to after hours alarm calls.
18. Performs other duties as assigned.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

TRAVEL & DRIVING REQUIREMENTS
Travel and driving are not required for this position.


QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Some college preferred.
  • 1-year security/surveillance experience preferred. Will consider applicants with no security experience if applicant is able to meet other job requirements.
  • 3+ years’ experience surveilling and protecting in healthcare setting preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGULATIONS
  • California Guard card (or attain within 6 months of hire).
  • Crisis Intervention Training (or attain within 6 months of hire).
  • A valid California driver’s license and a good driving record will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Current CPR certification or attain within 6 months of hire.
  • Applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam, tuberculin skin test or x-ray and urine drug screen test (to include marijuana). Health must be adequate to perform all duties of the position.
  • Applicants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination.
  • Must pass background check.


TECHNOLOGY SKILLS
Must be proficient in the following:
  • Productivity Software: Microsoft Office 365; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email & Calendar Management (outlook), Teams (video conferencing and meetings), and Share Point.
  • Utilization of Paycom, Relias Learning, and PolicyTech systems.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of security and surveillance best practices.
  • Knowledge of healthcare facilities and tribal communities.
  • Skilled in investigative procedures.
  • Skilled in completing reports and keeping data logs.
  • Ability to observe suspicious or abnormal activity.
  • Ability to resolve conflict; de-escalate crisis situations.
