Job Description Summary
HarbourVest is seeking a Senior Manager to join the Performance Measurement Group to execute responsibilities under the strategic guidance of the Performance Measurement Vice President. This team is responsible for the calculation and distribution of performance data, as well as the completion of detailed performance measurement reviews on marketing/advertising materials.
The Senior Manager’s role is responsible for executing on the team’s strategy and vision, as defined by the Vice President. This includes but is not limited to: the creation and implementation of tactical plans, monitoring daily activities related to performance data calculations and measurement reviews, procedure creation/maintenance, and the establishment/monitoring of Key Performance Indicators, including issue resolution with staff and processes to ensure adherence with KPI’s. In addition, this role will be expected to execute against business unit goals and objectives while continuously striving for improvement in people, processes, and technology. This person will work closely with the Vice President and other team members to support a scalable performance measurement strategy across HarbourVest teams, including Performance, Investor Relations, Product Specialists, Investment, Marketing, Compliance, Accounting, and Treasury. A successful candidate for this position will combine performance measurement leadership expertise with strong business acumen, superior relationship building skills, strong strategic and analytical skills, diverse experiences, and maturity. This leader must be an effective player-coach and a developer of the talent serving our Firm and our clients.
Job Skills And Abilities
  • Experience in completing complex performance calculations, reviewing data/materials for accuracy/completeness, and publishing of performance data for internal and external consumption
  • Experience interacting with and communicating to various stakeholders regarding industry standard performance measurement and benchmarking practices, demonstrating strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple and often competing priorities, superior problem-solving skills, and an understanding of requisite performance-related mathematical and quantitative techniques. Able to creatively solution and implement results consistently
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and assist in the development and management of high performing team; prior management experience is preferred
  • Proven ability to establish procedures and controls within a regulatory environment, and monitor / hold staff accountable for adherence to procedures
  • Broad understanding of analytical tools and related systems, including spreadsheets, accounting, and performance measurement systems, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Experience with reporting, dashboard, and other analytical tool design/creation/maintenance
  • Experience with data governance and developing and monitoring exception reporting preferred
  • Self-starter who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment

Responsibilities
Performance Data and Calculations: 60%
  • Responsible for the validation of funds and benchmarks performance data
  • Ensures data within calculations is properly sourced/selected
  • Works closely with accounting, investment teams, performance teams and others to ensure timely completion of quarterly reporting, RFPs, and other custom calculation requests
  • Assist in the creation of new track records and other models adhere to firm/industry standards
  • Work directly with internal and external stakeholders to ensure complete, accurate, and timely performance data including identification and resolution of issues
  • Monitor and hold staff accountable for quality and timely deliverables
Projects and Improvements: 30%
  • Establish standard operating procedures and oversee processes/controls related to performance measurement
  • Create/redesign/enhance existing reporting framework to meet evolving needs
  • Support data governance initiatives, ensuring proper data governance over performance metrics/attributes
  • Partner with IT, internal customers, and stakeholders to implement new technology to support performance measurement
Staff Development: 10%
  • Interview, hire, and onboard Performance Measurement professionals
  • Develop, maintain, and execute training program for Performance Measurement Group
  • Manage staff, set goals, provide regular feedback
Education
BS Accounting, Finance, Math or Statistics
Certificate in Investment Performance Management (CIPM), preferred
CPA, CFA or equivalent
Experience
5-7 years of operations experience within the asset management, financial sales, or service industry. Private Equity experience preferred
