Senior Property Accountant


SUMMARY

The Senior Property Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day financials of the property.


CLASSIFICATION

The position is a full-time, regular, exempt position.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

The position reports directly to the Senior Accounting Manager.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs general cost accounting and other related duties in the accounting department.
  • Manages capex budget and expenses along with cash reporting on large renovation items. Submits draws to bank.
  • Prepares periodic (monthly) balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
  • Maintains the general ledger.
  • Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
  • Reconciles customer accounts and manages accounts receivable collections.
  • Verifies payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
  • Files required tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
  • Coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software system; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software, as appropriate.
  • Completes ad hoc reporting as required.
  • Assists Senior Accounting Manager with projects as requested and covers for them as needed for vacation or other days off.
  • Completes journal entries for accruals and reclasses as directed by Managers.
  • Works directly with onsite team to ensure accurate financials.
  • Prepares of monthly financials and all supporting schedules.
  • Completes bank reconciliations and research of cash items.
  • Responsible for the cash management for property, including payments for mortgage, tax, and partner distributions.
  • Manages the monthly replacement reserve and capex funding.
  • Tracks and reports capital project budget.
  • Completes general accounting tasks for multifamily assets.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred; four or more years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of GAAP.
  • Advanced computer skills with accounting software, industry specific technology including Yardi, and using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and various other computer applications.
