This position is eligible for telework which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.

MTA will consider exceptions for religious and medical reasons, where appropriate. “Fully vaccinated” means you must have both doses of a 2-dose vaccine and two weeks have elapsed since the second dose, or have received 1 dose of a 1-dose vaccine and two weeks have elapsed since the dose. Proof of your vaccination status in the form of a CDC vaccine card must be submitted prior to your start date.

The purpose of this position is assist in the scheduling process through the production of reports as a result of detailed analyses performed on train performance data from the signal system and ridership trends from the automated passenger estimating systems on MNR’s Fleet.
Data Analysis and Reporting
Develop reports from available data sources for OTP, Ridership, and Train Crew Staffing.
Analyze OTP and Ridership for trends to inform scheduling decisions
Analyze cost impacts of schedule changes
Maintain Train Crew Staffing model database
Equipment and Crew Plan concept, design, and implementation
Assist in the production of equipment and crew plans to support schedules
Assist in the design of track assignments
Assist in the maintenance of schedule information in databases (TT75/Train Plan)
Assist in the proofing of employee and public Schedules
Working knowledge of a rail operations scheduling system, (preferably TrainPlan) or ability to obtain proficiency within 12 months of hire
Knowledge of Metro-North Operating Rules, Territory, Physical Characteristics, Metro-North and Federal Rules regarding the operation of trains and equipment or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
Knowledge of ridership demand analysis and service planning concepts or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
Knowledge of MS Power BI, MS Access, or ability to obtain within 12 months
Excellent oral and written communications skills, including presentation skills
Strong quantitative and analytical skills
Strong organizational skills needed to manage complex databases
Strong ability to exercise a level of independent judgment and decision making
Ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize workload while adhering to deadlines
Effective interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of management and external contacts
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and/or comparable system applications
Associates’s Degree in Business Administration, Statistics, or related field or technical degree In lieu of degree, an additional two (2) years of experience in train scheduling, train dispatching, transportation operations, or transportation planning may also be considered
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in transportation operations, transportation planning, Data Analysis Reporting and Visualization, or a similiar analytical function.
Master’s Degree in Transportation Management, Logistics, Planning, Mathematics, or Statistics
As an employee of Metro-North Railroad you may be required to complete a New York State financial disclosure statement, if you earn more than $105,472.00 or if you hold a position designated as a policy maker.
Employees driving company vehicles must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MNR drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.

Additional Criteria for Current Employees: Current Metro-North employees must be in active service to be eligible for consideration. Agreement Employees applying for a position outside of their present craft are required to have worked in your current union for at least one (1) year preceding the Application Deadline to be eligible to apply for a posted position, and have completed the agreed upon formal training commitment, including on-the-job training or lock-in requirement, if applicable (for example: Signal Trainee, Foreman-In-Training, etc.). If you are transferring to another craft, you may be required to forfeit your seniority in your present union. Non-agreement employees must have worked in your current position for a minimum of one (1) year preceding the Application Deadline. Along with a background investigation (including but not limited to, employment, education, and criminal history), employees are also subject to an internal investigation, which includes an evaluation not limited to discipline records and performance assessments.
