The Senior Strategy Advisor (SSA) is a full-time position that contributes to the long-term growth, development, and success of San Francisco Community Health Center’s (SFCHC) by working hand-in-hand with SFCHC’s CEO to lead key initiatives related to SFCHC’s strategic priorities, advance SFCHC’s reputation on behalf of SFCHC’s priority communities at local and national levels, and build and contribute significantly to SFCHC’s external relations plan (to be developed). The SSA will (1) develop and deepen strategic relationships and partnerships with community and health care institutions, networks, and coalitions; government and administrative leaders; institutional funders; and legislators; (2) advance policy and advocacy initiatives at local, statewide, and national levels in service of SFCHC’s strategic priorities and on behalf of SFCHC’s priority communities; and (3) build a long term strategy that harnesses the collective power of SFCHC’s national HIV capacity building track record, high quality and innovative Trans service history and comprehensive HIV models of care, and burgeoning street-based health services. The SSA is an integral member of the leadership team of SFCHC and reports directly to the CEO.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Relationships & Partnerships

  • Pursues and advances partnerships and relationships with targeted health care institutions, clinics, coalitions, networks, and CBOs, aligned with goals established in our strategic plan;
  • Leads ongoing strategy and tactics to position our health center for long-term success;
  • Serves in leadership roles on relevant national coalitions/networks, policy forums, advisory committees, think tanks, boards, commissions, etc. to advance the needs and contributions of SFCHC’s priority communities, ensuring they are front and center locally and nationally;
  • Builds broad-based support for SFCHC as an FQHC and works to firmly establish SFCHC as a major component of San Francisco’s health care safety net;
  • Advances our brand as a local/national capacity builder, thought leader, go-to source related to our priority communities;
  • Works with SFCHC’s CEO and Community Relations Manager to design an external relations plan that encompasses all of the above;
  • Coaches SFCHC team members to participate on community coalitions, to present on relevant community panels and at local and national conferences, and to testify at public hearings

Policy & Advocacy

  • Connects the dots between social determinants of health, equity, and whole-person care in service of marginalized, stigmatized, and vulnerable communities, and builds and implements strategic policy initiatives with SFCHC’s Health Policy Analyst aligned with SFCHC’s priorities and goals;
  • Spearheads local, state, and federal policy efforts on behalf of SFCHC and meaningfully involves constituents at all levels, working in close coordination with SFCHC’s Health Policy Analyst;
  • Serves as SFCHC’s spokesperson on policy issues;
  • Leads community-wide network and/or coalition efforts in the areas of HIV, LGBTQ health, health care, and homelessness, specifically focused on equity and justice

Long-Term Strategy Development

  • Partners with SFCHC’s CEO, leadership members, subject matter experts/luminaries, and consultants to build a long-term national strategy that harnesses the collective power of SFCHC’s national HIV capacity building track record, high quality and innovative Trans service history and comprehensive HIV models of care, and burgeoning street-based health services;
  • Secures resources and funding to support the long-term national strategy as referenced above;
  • Supports and leads implementation science efforts to document and evaluate SFCHC’s promising and evidence-based models and practices;
  • Authors/Co-authors journal publications related to the work and innovation of SFCHC’s programs and services;
  • Contributes to SFCHC’s communication plan and efforts

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health care administration/policy, nonprofit organizational development, or equivalent experience
  • At least five years of experience in a senior leadership and/or strategy position in a public/private/nonprofit environment
  • Strong working knowledge of and experience with the health care environment of San Francisco and at the federal level
  • Effective ability to communicate SFCHC’s role in the health care environment
  • Experience with implementation science research and methodology
  • Demonstrated track record of personal and professional integrity
  • Excellent supervisory and coaching skills, and strong, demonstrated facilitative leadership skills
  • Sensitivity to HIV issues, as well as gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and language diversity
  • Experience and ability to work independently, as well as with and across all levels of management and line staff
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Experience and ability to influence and collaborate in a diverse and cross-functional workplace.
  • Experience and ability to identify stakeholders’ needs / concerns and provide proactive solutions.
  • Excellent attention to detail, ability to communicate effectively and manage multiple deadlines and priorities.

STRONGLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master Degree in public health, public policy, or equivalent experience
  • Experience working in an FQHC/community health center
